Enterprise software maker SSA Global Technologies Inc. announced Monday that it acquired some key enterprise resource planning technology from InterBiz, the e-business applications division of Computer Associates International Inc.

SSA, of Chicago, purchased the supply chain management, financial management and human resource management product lines of InterBiz.

The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The acquisition adds ERP functionality to SSAs industrial sector software and puts SSA on the path to regain a leading position in its target markets, according to officials.

The combined company, with about 9,000 companies under its customer umbrella, will provide new products and enhancements that support SSAs and InterBizs existing brands, according to Michael Greenough, president, chairman and CEO at SSA.

Some highlights of the acquisition include an additional revenue stream for SSA to spend on research and development, according to officials.

The acquisition will also provide some critical mass to SSA as it repositions itself as a software maker of merit in specific vertical markets, including automotive, consumer goods–food, beverages and electronics–general manufacturing and pharmaceuticals.

As for Computer Associates, of Islandia, N.Y., its strategy is to focus on enterprise management, security, storage, application development and integration, business intelligence, and portals, according to President and CEO Sanjay Kumar.

Over the past year SSA has been re-engineering its company to provide e-commerce and collaboration software that fits in with its core ERP platform, BPCS.

SSA officials said they are in an excellent position to harness some e-business market share; in the first six months of its fiscal year, the company generated profits and signed more than 750 contracts, according to officials.
