While many of us keep our smartphones safely swaddled in protective cases, thanks to their delicate glass screens and easily cracked plastic parts, some handsets are actually designed for people who live a more active, adventurous lifestyle, where exposure to dust or submersion in water is more likely than not. That's the market to which Samsung is pitching the Galaxy S 4 Active, the latest member of the company's family of Galaxy mobile devices, which protects against water damage for up to 30 minutes of submergence at a depth of three feet, offers dust resistance to a level of IP67 (IP stands for International Protection against ingress of solid foreign objects and harmful ingress of water, with the highest level being IP68). Plus, it is equipped with a water-resistant earphone jack and Glove Touch, which allows the touch screen to be operated while wearing gloves. In addition, the 8-megapixel rear camera features Aqua Mode, which can be deployed to increase visual quality and clarity for enhanced underwater images and video. Other features include a 1.9GHz quad-core processor, a 2,600mAh battery and a 5-inch Full HD TFT LCD screen. The S 4 Active will be available beginning this summer in the United States and Europe.
