Velocity Micro ProMagix RS Workstations Priced for High-End Buyers

In a bid to attract customers who want some of the most powerful computers on the market, Velocity Micro on Sept. 26 introduced its new ProMagix RS line of computers. The PC workstations come in three versions—the RS1, RS2 and RS3, complete with Advanced Micro Devices CPUs. The RS1 is the most expensive of the three models, with a starting price of $4,095. But those who want to save a few dollars can select lower-cost components and choose the RS3, with its smaller chassis, to bring the price down to $1,999. Like other Velocity Micro machines, the RS line ditches proprietary add-on software, also known as “bloatware,” to reduce system overhead. There Are a Few Design Differences

Although the ProMagix RS1 and RS2 are nearly identical in their design, the ProMagix RS3 looks much different. The RS1 and RS2 sport a big-tower design, but the RS3 is a space-saver measuring just 13 inches tall and 12.5 inches deep. According to Velocity Micro, the RS3 is “perfect for space-constrained projects.”

AMD Epyc CPUs With 128 Cores Drive ProMagix RS1

Velocity Micro’s RS1 is the most powerful of the three computers. It runs on two AMD Epyc processors that can deliver up to 128 total processing cores. The computer also supports two AMD Radeon Pro graphics cards, for one of the most powerful computer options on the market.

ProMagix RS2 Equipped With Ryzen Threadripper Processor

Velocity Micro’s RS2 is also a powerful competitor, but its components are lower-end compared to the RS1. The RS2 runs AMD’s Ryzen Threadripper processor with 16 physical cores and 32 threads and AMD Pro Series graphics. According to Velocity Micro, all of the components have been optimized by its engineering team.

The Velocity Micro RS3 is the smallest of the three computers. Although its specs are less impressive than those of the other machines, the RS3 is no slouch. It comes with AMD Ryzen 7 processors and Radeon Pro graphics, which also have been optimized by Velocity Micro’s team.

These ProMagix Models Are a Pure AMD Play

As their specs might suggest, Velocity Micro is making a pure AMD play with the ProMagix RS computers. Those looking for Intel processors can find them in other Velocity Micro products. But AMD processors deliver the power in the RS line.

Velocity Micro Says No to Bloatware

One of Velocity Micro’s more important selling points has been its commitment to ending bloatware. Users will not find the disk drives loaded with Velocity Micro-branded apps and unwanted Windows utilities. Instead, Velocity Micro tries to deliver the purest computing experience, which only helps improve computer performance.

There’s a Linux Surprise Inside

The ProMagix RS workstations are configured with Windows 10, but Linux is an option. During configuration, users can choose Ubuntu Linux instead of Windows 10 Pro. Like the Windows versions, the Linux option doesn’t include unwanted bloatware.

Buyers Have Plenty of Component Options

Velocity Micro’s machines come with several configuration options, allowing users to select which components they want in the devices. This includes core components such as cooling options and video cards. Users also can opt for multiple storage drives and WiFi. The customization options offered by Velocity Micro is impressive.

Velocity Micro touts its customer support as a major selling point for its computers. A U.S.-based customer support team is available around the clock and is generally considered one of the better support teams in the industry. And customers can send back their machines at any time for a free tune-up from Velocity Micro’s engineers.

Velocity Micro PCs Aren’t for Buyers on Tight Budgets

The RS1 costs $4,095 to start, making it an expensive option for most customers. Velocity Micro’s RS2 starts at $2,999, and the RS3 costs $1,999 to start. Cost can rise significantly as customers select other, pricier component options. The ProMagix RS line will start shipping in October.
