Cloudmark SpamNet Banks on Users

Cloudmark Inc.s approach to blocking spam relies on its entire user base.

The companys Cloudmark SpamNet plug-in adds a small tool bar to Microsoft Corp.s Outlook that includes a button users can click to identify a selected e-mail message as spam. A message signature is then added to Cloudmarks spam database, and other users in the softwares almost-50,000-strong user base will have that message routed directly to their spam folders.

The plug-in is currently in a no-cost, open beta program and requires Outlook 2000 or Outlook XP (either with or without Microsoft Exchange). Its performing well for eWEEK Labs so far in tests and can be downloaded at www.cloudmark.com.
