Ipedo on Monday rolled out a version of its enterprise information-integration platform that features what the company claims is the industrys first dual SQL/XQuery engine.

Such an architecture is designed to give users of Ipedo Inc.s XIP 4.0 the ability to access data types including those stored in relational databases, XML documents and Web Services payloads.

Each of the dual engines contains an optimizer and can invoke the other as needed, according to a press release.

The update has also picked up a visual rules editor, Web services publishing capabilities, and integration with Business Objects SAs XI and Crystal Reports XI, all geared toward making it easier to get on-demand intelligence.

The visual rules editor is a GUI that lets nonspecialists create rules and actions and allows preprocessing of data flows for quality assurance, alerting or invocation of detailed analysis.

The Business Objects/Crystal Reports support will allow data federated by Ipedo to be made available in that softwares reports or analyses. Ipedo XIP shows up as a single source, making it possible to directly add integrated information.

The publishing support means that integrated views of data can be put out as a Web service and thus fit into a SOA (service-oriented architecture). Microsoft Corp.s Visual Studio and the Eclipse Web Tools Platform can be used to access this capability.

Beyond those major enhancements, the upgrade includes enhanced query optimization, new data source discovery and mapping capabilities, and new visual wizards for data import.

Ipedo XIP 4.0 is available now for Windows 2000, Windows NT, Sun Solaris, Red Hat Linux and SuSE Linux. Its priced on a per-CPU basis. For more details, check Ipedos Web site.
