Juan Valdez may soon be bringing his burro to a coffee shop near you. And hell be wireless, thanks to Sprint. The company disclosed this week that it has signed with a group of Colombian coffee growers who plan to open a chain of coffee shops in the US named for the familiar advertising icon.
Sprint said it will provide communication services, including Wi-Fi, Internet and local and long distance service to the first two Juan Valdez shops, targeted to open in New York and Washington, D.C.
Twenty-five more locations, which the company said it also expects to service, are scheduled to open in the US in the next six months. In line with the deal, Sprint plans a free limited time offer in which coffee house customers can sample its PCS Wi-Fi access along with the java.
