PeopleSoft Inc., like its enterprise application rivals SAP AG and Oracle Corp., is providing tools designed to make it easier for customers to integrate the companys own internal applications with third-party software.

PeopleSoft, in Pleasanton, Calif., earlier this month unveiled an adapter to connect a PeopleSoft application with SAP software, as well as technology that provides a stronger link between two of PeopleSofts internal payroll applications.

HCM Payroll Process Integration Pack, available now, links PeopleSofts Enterprise Human Capital Management Payroll suite to the General Ledger application from SAP, of Walldorf, Germany. A similar preintegration pack, due next month, will provide integration between PeopleSofts Enterprise HCM Payroll suite and the companys EnterpriseOne General Ledger, which was part of the J.D. Edwards technology that PeopleSoft acquired last year.

Process Integration Pack includes data transformation, routing, cross-reference maps, connectors and adapters that help users better integrate PeopleSoft business processes with SAPs processes, PeopleSoft officials said. They committed PeopleSoft to maintaining those business process integrations as users upgrade their PeopleSoft Payroll or SAP GL applications.

The preintegration of Enterprise HCM Payroll with EnterpriseOne GL provides master file synchronization between the systems.

For managing within processes in a PeopleSoft environment, the company at the same time introduced Version 8.44 of its PeopleTools developer suite, which includes the namesake Performance Monitor, Change Assistant and Diagnostic Framework modules.

Performance Monitor identifies places in a PeopleSoft deployment ripe for performance improvement, as well as sources of performance bottlenecks. Change Assistant helps automate the selection and installation of software fixes. Diagnostic Framework incorporates built-in diagnostic tools to help users identify problems, officials said.

Late last month Oracle announced that it will open up the next iteration of its E-Business Suite to integration with third-party applications. SAP has been working on its NetWeaver integration platform for the past two years. “They all have to play together,” said Chad Eschinger, an analyst with Gartner Inc., in Stamford, Conn.
