Hyperion Solutions Corp. on Tuesday detailed the beginnings of its product integration plans with technology it recently acquired from Brio Software, as the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company extends its offerings from business performance management into business intelligence.

While the full roadmap will not be determined until closer to the end of the year, Hyperion plans to deliver the first integrated platform offerings of combined technology by early next year. The entire new platform will be available by the first quarter of next year, company officials said.

Integration efforts will focus on integrating the former Brio Performance Suite products with Hyperions Business Performance Management suite applications, which would allow customers to combine financial data from Hyperion applications with operational data from transactional systems, gaining insight into the financial impact of operational decisions at the corporate or line of business level, company officials said.

Another integration goal is to combine the capabilities of Brios Metrics Builder product with the Hyperion platform to deliver a single metrics management solution that includes scorecarding, prepackaged and custom dashboards and activity monitoring. This integration would provide consistent definitions for performance measurement across the organization, Hyperion officials said.

Another prong of the integration would bring together Hyperion and former Brio platform technologies to address the full spectrum of query, reporting and analysis. This will extend the reach of Hyperions technology to more enterprise users beyond the business analysts and operational managers who typically use Hyperions software.

Hyperion will keep the Brio product names, changing only the company name. The company will maintain separate sales forces to sell both Business Intelligence and Business Performance Management product lines, though it plans to use BI to get into organizations and grow their use of the technology into full BPM deployments, according to Nazhin Zarghamee, Hyperions chief marketing officer.

“Our sales force will treat Business Intelligence as an essential component of Business Performance Management,” said Zarghamee. “Companies can start with a need to get simple reports off transaction systems, then go to dynamic dashboards, then key performance indicators, then planning and business modeling, then reporting from financial information.”
