Beginning this Friday, Gateway will ship what it dubs the first sub-$1,000 notebook PC with an integrated six-in-one card reader.
The 400L, priced at $999 after a limited $100 rebate, allows users the option of either a Pentium 4-M or mobile Celeron processor, paired with a 15-inch XGA display.
The card reader, however, is the 400Ls selling point. Attempting to capitalize on the publics fascination with digital cameras — which use a variety of digital media — Gateway will include a reader capable of parsing Compact Flash, Secure Digital, Sony Memory Stick, SmartMedia, IBM Microdrive and Multimedia Card formats.
“Everyone wants a full suite of digital media capabilities, whether theyre at home, at work or on the road – and the Gateway 400L gives customers what they are looking for at an incredible price,” said Mike Stinson, general manager, mobile products group at Gateway, in a statement. “The Gateway 400L will impress people who are already using digital media applications, or provide a jump start for someone looking to get into it for the first time.”
Integrated wireless 802.11b functionality can be added to the Gateway 400L for only $99, Gateway said. The Gateway 400L also boasts an integrated V.92 modem and 10/100 Ethernet.
