In a week full of Web services related announcements, BEA Systems Inc. announced the general availability of the latest version of its application infrastructure platform for developing and deploying Web services, along with several other Web services-related announcements.
San Jose, Calif.-based BEA announced that its BEA WebLogic Platform 7.0 will be available at the end of this month. Wynn White, senior director of product marketing at BEA, said the BEA WebLogic Platform 7.0 is an integrated stack of infrastructure software that includes the BEA WebLogic Server 7.0 application server, WebLogic Portal 7.0 portal framework, WebLogic Integration integration services broker and WebLogic Workshop, BEAs application development and deployment platform for Web services.
In addition, BEA announced the shipment of its WebLogic JRockit Java Virtual Machine for Intel-based servers. BEA and Intel Corp. announced the availability of WebLogic JRockit 3.5.1 that is optimized for the Intel Xeon family and will run on the soon-to-be-released Intel Itanium 2 processor. White said the JRockit will help fill the void left when Microsoft Corp. pulled its JVM from Windows XP, a move the company last week said it would rescind by providing a service pack with JVM support for XP this summer.
“Its the first JVM actually built for the Web,” White said.
In addition, BEA and Hewlett-Packard Co. announced a long-term strategic alliance to jointly market integrated solutions including hardware, software and services across HPs platforms.
Also, Tavant Technologies Inc., a Santa Clara, Calif.-based provider of software products and solutions that enables businesses to manage, streamline and enhance distribution channels, announced support for BEAs WebLogic Platform 7.0. Tavant facilitates collaboration between manufacturers and financial services companies and their channel partners. Together, Tavant and BEA provide a solution that can enable companies to be consistently integrated with their customers and channel partners, the companies said.
Meanwhile, KeyLabs, Lindon, Utah, a unit of Lab Acquisition Corp. (also of Lindon, Utah), Tuesday announced the establishment of a comprehensive testing initiative for Web services. KeyLabs developed the program in an effort to provide assurance testing for independent hardware and software vendors and enterprise developers for the deployment and maintenance of Web services applications.
The Web services initiative includes four steps. The first step features the creation of a task force of testing experts from the companys lab who will focus on interoperability issues surrounding Web services. Secondly, KeyLabs will provide the companys standard assurance testing services in the main functional areas of quality, performance, and security while offering strategic planning and resources specific to each customer. The third part of the initiative has KeyLabs delivering conformance and certification testing services for its customers and partners, including working with new large partners and their Web services development tools. And finally, KeyLabs will go beyond certification testing to deliver program management services for companies implementing their own partner certification standards, the company said.
Meanwhile, Trellix Corp., Concord, Mass., Tuesday announced a suite of integrated Web site publishing, promotion and business services for the small business market. The move allows millions of small businesses to get everything they need to easily and effectively market their businesses online through a single service provider, the company said.
Trellix has enhanced its publishing platform to combine site-building technology with promotions and business services such as search engine submission and e-mail marketing. And small businesses will be able to access these tools through Trellix partners.
EnvoyWorldWide Inc., a Bedford, Mass., provider of real-time notification services to wired and wireless devices, announced partnerships with KnowNow Inc., Mountain View, Calif.; Altio Inc., Boston; and Digital Evolution Inc., Santa Monica, Calif., that support the development of Web services. EnvoyWorldWide delivers notification and messaging solutions as a component of business applications. EnvoyWorldWides real-time message delivery engine runs as a hosted solution to deliver messages to wired and wireless communications devices. The software supports Simple Object Access Protocol and XML Web services, the company said.
