In an effort to provide smaller companies with a technology jump-start in the wake of Sept. 11, the Commerce Department, IT vendors and other business executives unveiled last week a Web site with links to IT service and equipment suppliers.

The site, called NYITAssist.com, is part of the ReStart Central initiative to assist businesses that were hurt by the terrorist attacks.

The suppliers listed are providers of Intel Corp. architecture hardware and software products and Microsoft Certified Partners. A notice on the site states, “More service suppliers will be added, representing a broad range of hardware and software products, as demand for such services grows through this site.”

Some businesses are making their offerings available at a discount through the Web-based clearinghouse.

“I am especially thankful for the IT businesses who have offered price reductions or at-cost services to help these small and medium-size businesses get back up and running,” said Commerce Secretary Don Evans in a prepared statement.
