Today’s topics include the National Institute of Standards and Technology providing cyber-security advice to SMBs under a new federal law, and Dell EMC coming out with a new networking switch for speed.

President Donald Trump has signed the NIST Small Business Cybersecurity Act into law, requiring the National Institute of Standards and Technology to provide cyber-security guidelines, tools, best practices, standards, methodologies and other information to help small and medium-size businesses.

The law also requires the director of NIST to address small business concerns when putting together guidance and security requirements. A requirement of the law is that information is placed and regularly updated on agency websites.

In addition, the NIST director and heads of other agencies must ensure “the information they respectively make prominently available is consistent, clear, and concise.”

Dell EMC is expanding its portfolio of open networking systems to include a 100 Gigabit Ethernet switch designed for hyperscale data centers, large enterprises and service providers.

The highly dense Z9264F-ON switch, with 64 ports of 100 Gigabit Ethernet in a 3.5-inch form factor, is designed to address the rapid changes occurring in data centers and the rising demand for fast networking.

According to Tom Burns, senior vice president and general manager of networking and solutions at Dell EMC, “The new Z9264F-ON delivers on that desire, providing our customers with the most capable 100GbE switching platform in the industry and granting our customers maximum control over their network spend and their infrastructure.”

The switch is the latest in Dell EMC’s growing portfolio of Open Networking hardware, is powered by Broadcom’s 6.4-terabit-per-second StrataXGS Tomahawk II chip, and comes with a range of options, including 64 100GbE or 50GbE ports or 128 25GbE ports.
