Qualcomm is bringing the third generation of its AI Engine to mainstream smartphones through its new Snapdragon 670 Arm-based systems on a chip, bringing not only improved performance, but also a real-time responsiveness, greater reliability and enhanced security.
The new mobile platform comes just as the use of mobile artificial intelligence in the business world is starting to get underway.
A growing number of smartphones, including Apple’s iPhone X and Samsung’s Galaxy Note8 and Galaxy S9 and S9+, are rolling out AI capabilities, though initially the technologies are being used by consumers. Gartner analysts are predicting that by 2022, 80 percent of smartphones will have built-in AI features.
Dell EMC last week unveiled Machine Learning with Hadoop and Deep Learning with Nvidia, which are two fully integrated and pre-validated systems in its Ready Solutions lineup that are designed for machine learning and deep learning tasks.
Both offerings are based on the company’s PowerEdge servers and include not only compute, storage and networking capabilities but also libraries and AI frameworks like Caffe and TensorFlow. The new systems improve data science productivity by up to 30 percent and reduce the time needed to get an AI environment running by six months to a year compared with organizations that try to bring all the components together themselves, according to company officials.
The systems are available now in the United States and will launch in many other countries within 60 days.
