Health insurance provider Anthem disclosed on Feb. 4 that it was the victim of a data breach that exposed 80 million customer and employee records.
Multiple Anthem brands—including Anthem Blue Cross, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia, Empire Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Amerigroup and Caremore were impacted by the breach.
Once the breach was discovered, Anthem contacted the FBI and took steps to close possible security vulnerabilities. Anthem retained FireEye’s Mandiant cyber-response division to investigate the breach. Anthem will also provide free credit monitoring and identity protection services for impacted individuals.

VCE, a company founded by EMC, VMware and Cisco Systems, on Feb. 4 said it is expanding its lineup of integrated infrastructure systems by adding the VCE Foundation for Federation Enterprise Hybrid Cloud.
This integrates VMware’s NSX network virtualization technology and vRealize management and orchestration software. The VCE Foundation also includes EMC’s ViPR software-defined storage product.
