Recently released court documents show that Yahoo resisted the U.S. government’s initial attempts to force it to comply with the National Security Agency’s PRISM program back in 2008.

Details in the documents claim that Yahoo was threatened with a $250,000-a-day fine for failing to comply with PRISM. Under PRISM, bulk metadata from Americans’ communications is collected by the NSA.

Ron Bell, general counsel of Yahoo, noted in a statement that his company did not want to comply with PRISM, as it viewed the effort as being unconstitutional.

Apple is scheduled to release the new iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus smartphones are to be on Sept. 19. AT&T will offer the phones through its retail stores under multiple plans, including two-year contracts or through the AT&T Next program.

Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon all began allowing customers to pre-order the phone last week. Sprint’s customers can get a new iPhone for Life Plan that allows customers to make monthly payments.

T-Mobile users are also able to make monthly payments on the iPhone 6. Verizon customers can get the IPhone 6 through a new, two-year customer agreement or through upgrades via the Verizon Edge program.

In an effort to bring its Internet of Things expertise to the railroad industry, Cisco recently unveiled Connected Rail, a portfolio of offerings from Cisco and its partners that company officials said will benefit railroad operators and the passengers who ride the trains.

Connected Rail comprises a broad range of the company’s products, from networking switches and routers, to video surveillance cameras, TelePresence video conferencing systems, wireless access points, digital signage and software.

Barracuda Networks has announced the acquisition of C2C Systems, a U.K.-based provider of information management, email archiving and PST-file management software.

Barracuda, a provider of hybrid on-site storage/in-cloud storage, data replication and disaster recovery services, has been investing more into software-defined storage packages that are ready for the market.

The company launched a new product and service initiative called Data Protection Plus, which uses this converged storage package to enable users to access, retain and share business data from any location using any type of connected device.
