On Tuesday, March 18, at 10 a.m. PST/1 p.m. EST/7 p.m. GMT, @eWEEKnews will host its 17th eWEEKChat event. The topic will be “New-Gen Storage and File-Sharing: Why Cloud Is Not Enough.” It will be moderated by Chris Preimesberger, who serves as eWEEK’s editor of features and analysis.

      Some quick facts:

Topic: “New-Gen Storage and File-Sharing: Why Cloud Is Not Enough”
      Date/time: March 18, 2014 @10 a.m. PST/1 p.m. EST/6 p.m. GMT
      Hosted by: @eWeekNews
      Moderator: Chris Preimesberger: @editingwhiz
Tweetchat handle: Use #CloudNotEnough to follow/participate in the chat on Twitter
Chatroom real-time links: We have two: http://tweetchat.com/room/CloudNotEnough or http://www.tchat.io/rooms/CloudNotEnough.

      You can register here.
      http://pages.egnyte.com/TweetChat_Webinar_Register.html

Egnyte, based in Mountain View, Calif., provides enterprise-class file sharing for its 40,000-plus global customers through a unique hybrid approach.

There is no shortage of the available file-sharing solutions. What are the top deciding factors? Cost? Deployment? Control? Security?

Ever since cloud storage and services were named and went mainstream in 2006, the No. 1 issue at the top of every “impediment-to-sales” list has been security. Enterprises are–and should be–cautious about allowing their sensitive customer and business-process data to be stored by a third-party provider in a data center that could be on another continent.

We’d like to find out how you are using (or not using) the cloud, what strengths/weaknesses in security you see, and what new features you’d like to see made available in the coming months and years.

With this in mind, you are invited to join your fellow tech professionals for a special eWEEKchat discussion on cloud storage and application security. If you are using the cloud, come share your knowledge with us. If you aren’t yet in the cloud, here is a chance to see what others are saying and ask your own questions.

In our eWEEKchat March 18, we will pose questions such as:

–How would you describe your current on-prem and cloud storage environment?
–Have the recent revelations by Snowden about government spying made you rethink your cloud storage policy?

–How does your industry (health care, construction, etc.) impact your plans for on-prem vs. cloud storage?

–97 percent of early cloud adopters now prefer a hybrid file-sharing solution. Is this something your company has–or should have–in its plans?

A Bit of Background, Should You Choose to Use It

      Here’s how the Tweetchat works:

What: A Tweetchat is an online conversation held at a prearranged time following a specific hashtag. In this case, we will be using the chatroom real-time links: http://tweetchat.com/room/CloudNotEnough or http://www.tchat.io/rooms/CloudNotEnough.

      When: Tuesday, March 18 at 10 a.m. Pacific Standard Time/1 p.m. EST/6 p.m. GMT.

Where: The chat also can be followed on Twitter using the hashtag #CloudNotEnough.

Why: The whole idea is to facilitate additional industry dialogue and provide a forum for questions, idea sharing and problem solving. We also want your input on what you’d like to discuss during future chats, so please leave a comment on this post or tweet @eweeknews with topic ideas.

Participants will be able to ask questions of eWEEK and Egnyte staff members and special guests or simply add their thoughts to the conversation. The only restrictions are that we stay on topic and that you say what you need to say succinctly (140 characters).

Hope to connect with you March 18, and use your collaboration network to tell your friends. Let’s have fun with this.
