Amazon Web Services (AWS) came to New York City on Aug. 14 for the east coast edition of its AWS Summit to progress in building its cloud infrastructure and announcing multiple new capabilities. Among the big customers that took the stage at event were streaming media provider Hulu and financial services firm FICO, who shared insights from their respective cloud projects, . Among the new services announced by AWS at the event was the Macie security service which uses machine learning capabilities to help identify and secure private customer data that shouldn’t be accessible from the public cloud. Amazon also announced a new migration hub to help make it easier for organizations to move entire data centers into the cloud. 2FICO Moves to AWS
FICO, which is well known in the U.S as a provider of credit score information, took to the AWS Summit stage to explain how it is migrating to the public cloud to help rapidly scale new services globally.
3AWS Introduces Cloud Migration Hub
Adrian Crockfort, vice president of cloud architecture at AWS announced the new Migration Hub. The goal of the AWS Migration Hub is to provide a single location for organizations to track the status of cloud migration projects across multiple AWS services and partner services.
4AWS Offers Multiple Data Analytics Services
Matt Wood General Manager of Artificial Intelligence at AWS used part of his AWS Summit presentation to highlight the various data analytics services that are now generally available in the public cloud.
5Machine Learning Comes to Data Security
Among the big announcements at AWS Summit was the new Amazon Macie service. Matt Wood General Manager of Artificial Intelligence at AWS explained that Macie can automatically discover, class and protect sensitive data on the AWS cloud using machine learning.
6AWS Config Updates Permissions
Amazon announced new rules in the AWS Config service to enhance the security of S3 storage instances. Among the new rules are one to more easily enable organization to block public read and write access to S3 data.
7CloudHSM Gains New Managed Service Capabilities
Amazon updated its CloudHSM (Hardware Security Module) with new managed service capabilities for provisioning, patching and backups.
8CloudTrail Free for All
The AWS CloudTrail event history service is now available for free for all AWS customers, providing visibility into the past seven days of event history.
9Hulu Comes to AWS
The Hulu video streaming platform has brought its new live service to AWS. Rafael Soltanovich, vice president of Software Development at Hulu explained the architecture and AWS services that enable the new Hulu platform.
10One Size Doesn’t Fit All in the Cloud
Adrian Crockfort, vice president of cloud architecture at AWS explained the spectrum of compute instances available in the public cloud, ranging from the simplest $5 a month Lightsail service to the high-end F1 FPGA compute instance.
