1Velocity Micro Vector M30 Desktop Rises Above the Common PC Herd
In March, Velocity Micro, a boutique PC vendor that makes high-end desktops and laptops, announced the release of the Vector M30. The tower desktop is one of the first to run on AMD’s Ryzen 7 processor, which makes it one of the most powerful personal computers on the market right now. The Vector M30 is marketed to consumers and business users who are willing to pay a bit more for features and performance that are a cut above the mass market standard. Velocity Micro is offers several graphics chip options, impressive cooling choices and a range of additional upgrades that make the computer a standout in the crowded PC market. The Vector M30’s starting price of $1,049 might seem a bit high, but when its features are considered, the computer might prove to be a good buy.
2A Desktop PC for Multiple Uses
Velocity Micro said the Vector M30 could be used for various uses. Specifically, the machine could be a suitable solution for consumers who need extra power at home or enterprise users looking for a workstation.
3Bring on the AMD Processors
AMD plays a central role in the Vector M30’s appeal. The computer ships with the AMD Ryzen 7 1700 processor, which comes with a 3.0GHz clock speed that can be boosted to 3.7GHz. Users can upgrade to the AMD Ryzen 7 1800X, which delivers even better speed.
4Select AMD or Nvidia Graphics Options
The Vector M30 should perform quite well on the graphics side. The device comes with an integrated AMD Bristol Ridge graphics card, and users can upgrade to a 6GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 video card. Other, cheaper Nvidia options are also available.
5Choose the Windows 10 Option
The Vector M30 comes with Windows 10 Home installed, and the company ships the original OEM Windows 10 disk so users can reinstall the operating system if something goes awry. Users can choose to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro—a smart move—for $70.
6Impressive Cooling Choices
Since this is a powerful computer, users want assurance it can be cooled without causing disruption. The standard build includes the AMD Certified Wraith heatsink, and two fans can be added, dramatically reducing the chance the device will overheat.
7Wireless Connectivity Is Optional
Like most other tower desktops, the Vector M30 comes with a Gigabit Ethernet network adapter. It also has another network port where users can add a D-Link 802.11ac WiFi adapter, which adds $45 to the cost.
8More Storage Choices
The Vector M30 ships with two storage bays and includes a single 1TB hard drive to start, upgradable to 3TB. A solid-state drive option is available, offering up to 1TB of available space. The second storage bay is limited to hard drives.
9Don’t Expect to Find Bloatware
As a custom PC builder, Velocity Micro doesn’t bundle bloatware in its devices. Its customization page offers customers the opportunity to choose which programs they want installed. Productivity software, security solutions and more are available.
10Check Out the Lifetime Upgrade Plan
Velocity Micro’s Vector M30 comes with a Lifetime Upgrade Plan. That means users can return it to Velocity Micro for maintenance, upgrades and tweaking to get it back to running at its full potential. The company recommends a tuneup every 15 to 18 months.
11A Reasonable Price to Start
In a market dominated by low-cost desktops, the Vector M30 is more expensive. The computer starts at $1,049 and increases with customizations. But users are getting a top-of-the-line machine that can be tuned every year to keep it working at its best.
