Citrix Plans to Add Machine Learning to Its Cloud Later This Year

Citrix has become the latest brand-name IT provider to put a major investment into adding analytics services as an option inside its legion of products.

At its Citrix Synergy 2017 conference in Orlando, Fla., the company May 23 introduced Citrix Analytics, what it calls “a new, holistic security and behavior-analytics offering” that expands the capabilities of its Citrix NetScaler Management and Analytics System with new behavior detection, security insights and proactive risk-resolution features.

This new product, which fits into Citrix’s corporate narrative around pointing its product line toward the “future of work,” brings in machine learning as a major component of the service option. The security package analyzes data sets across Citrix product portfolio, including XenApp/XenDesktop, XenMobile, ShareFile and  NetScaler.

It puts to work machine-learning algorithms and application behavior anomaly detection technology to enable IT organizations to find and troubleshoot application infrastructure performance issues, Citrix Director of Product Marketing, Desktops and Apps Dan Cote told eWEEK.

      What is a Digital Workspace?

“This idea of the digital workplace is something we’ve been talking about for a while,” Cote said. “And it’s not just about the applications and data; it’s around security, networking capabilities and being able to bring that all together into a unified digital workspace.”

Cote said Citrix Analytics will become available in the second half of this year, when more information about how it will be deployed will be made known.

At this week’s conference–being held May 23 through May 25–Citrix also announced that it has improved its service cloud in providing a cloud-based management plane across all Citrix technologies.

The company is integrating them with a consistent administrative experience, enabling users to combine the applications, data and tools needed to work from the cloud and deliver them to people anywhere in secure, personalized and contextually relevant ways, Cote said.

Because Citrix Cloud is designed to manage multi-cloud environments, customers who use it for virtual apps, desktops and data can place their workloads on any public or hybrid cloud, or on any on-premises virtualized environment, he said.

Citrix Has Built Out Services for Its Cloud

In the past year, Citrix Cloud has added new cloud services to build out its workspace delivery model. These services include XenApp Essentials and XenDesktop Essentials that are native to Microsoft Azure but managed from Citrix Cloud.

It also includes XenMobile options for device management and app management; NetScaler Gateway Service, allowing customers to create a gateway-in-the-cloud; integration with Azure Active Directory for administrators; new internet of things (IoT) capabilities; and other new services in our labs area.
