New Jersey Joins New York, California as Top Tech Jobs Market

Through the first half of the year, New Jersey added 5 percent more tech positions, or 3,600 jobs, topping the list of the fastest-growing states.

More tech jobs have been created in Massachusetts in the first half of the year, than last year at the same time.

Missouri’s tech employment grew at nearly 4 percent in the first half of this year, to take third place, while beating out Texas, New York and Washington.

Opportunities abound, including jobs at cloud software companies in Austin, health care powerhouses in Houston, the Federal Reserve Bank in Dallas and defense contractors in San Antonio.

New York City’s positioning to attract startups and tech companies to rival Silicon Valley in the West appears to be paying off, helping the state achieve 2.6 percent growth.

Powered by the strong startup presence in Seattle and Olympia, as well as Microsoft’s presence in Redmond, Washington’s tech job market grew 2.5 percent so far this year.

With demand for government IT positions strong, Maryland’s proximity to the federal government in Washington, D.C., has helped job growth hit 2 percent year-to-date, compared with 2012.

Colorado and Illinois are also making noise, each growing close to 2 percent year-to-date. You’ll find 2,000 tech job postings on Dice in Colorado alone.

On any given day, there are more than 4,000 tech jobs listed on Dice in Illinois. Web and Java developers, business analysts, and network architects are among the workers that tech companies in Chicago are seeking.

Philadelphia has seen a large increase in technology jobs year-over-year, in particular for Java developers, software engineers and network engineers, and helped the state post growth of 1.7 percent.
