      Honeywell HomeMed’s new Genesis Touch application allows patients to send vital data such as blood pressure, weight, blood sugar and temperature to their doctors on Samsung’s Galaxy Tab. Doctors then access the data through Honeywell HomeMed’s cloud-based LifeStream Management Suite. Genesis Touch also works with Fuze Meeting’s video conferencing application to allow doctors and patients to hold live remote visits.

      2Intermec PC23d Thermal Printer

      Rugged computing vendor Intermec introduced its PC23d Thermal Printer, which prints bar codes and labels for patient wristbands, medicine bottles and health records. The unit features a case that’s resistant to chemicals and cleaners, and the unit has built-in RFID for tracking patients and assets. The PC23d also comes with a wireless card that supports both WiFi and Bluetooth.

      3Genesis Touch Connects to Oximeters

      When a patient inserts his or her finger into a portable pulse oximeter, the medical device sends data on the patient’s pulse and blood oxygen rate to Honeywell HomMed’s LifeStream platform through the Genesis Touch application viewable on the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

      4Nuance 360 Development Platform on the Apple iPad

      Nuance announced that Montrue Technologies’ Sparrow EDIS application was the winner of its 2012 Mobile Clinician Voice Challenge, a contest that spurred health care software developers to voice-enable applications for mobile devices or the Web. Montrue developed Sparrow EDIS using Nuance’s 360 Development platform, which allows health care software vendors to embed speech recognition into clinical workflow applications. Sparrow EDIS incorporates SpeechAnywhere, a cloud-based tool that developers employ to speech-enable mobile apps. Meanwhile, doctors and nurses can use Sparrow EDIS in the emergency department to dictate information about a patient’s medical condition into an electronic health record (EHR) database on the Apple iPad.

      5Dragon Medical 360 Quality Analytics

      Nuance also introduced Dragon Medical 360 Quality Analytics, an application that allows health care organizations to pull quality measures out of narrated physician notes. Using Quality Analytics, health care providers can determine which patients are at risk for readmission and search narrated documentation for specific health criteria.

      6Dragon Medical 360 M.D. Assist

      Finally, Nuance rolled out the Dragon Medical 360 M.D. Assist, which the company developed with 3M Health Information Systems. The software allows health care organizations to detect missing information in physician documentation and improve the coding workflow. M.D. Assist can prompt doctors for more information if necessary to comply with the new International Classification of Diseases (ICD)-10 coding standard.

      7GE, AirStrip Unveil Patient Monitoring App for iPhone, iPad

      AirStrip Technologies introduced a new app for the iPhone and iPad called Patient Monitoring. It allows doctors to view clinical measurements as well as physiologic data and monitoring waveforms on the Apple devices. Patient Monitoring connects to GE Healthcare’s Carescape Gateway platform to link biomedical devices with hospital databases.

      8Motorola Droid Xyboard

      At HIMSS12, BoxTone, Motorola Mobility and Verizon Enterprise Solutions announced plans to package their technologies together for the health care space. Running on Verizon’s 4G network, Motorola Mobility’s Droid Xyboard 8.2 and 10.1 (pictured) tablets as well as Droid Razr and Droid Razr Maxx phones will incorporate features suitable for health care such as BoxTone’s Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) software platform, which allows hospital IT to lock down and manage the devices remotely.

      The Droid Razr and Razr Maxx (pictured) feature Corning Gorilla Glass to survive drops in a hospital and water-repellent nanoparticles to withstand liquids in a health care setting. In addition, the unit’s Citrix software allows remote access to electronic health records.

      10Motion Computing Integrates Check-In App

      Motion Computing announced that its tablets will integrate PatientWorks’ CheckinWorks application to allow patients to check in to doctors’ offices on the tablet. The application also allows patients to take care of their copays and sign consent forms. The app will be available on Motorola tablets such as the CL900, F5v, C5v and J3500 (pictured).
