      Boston Scientific, a maker of medical devices, has equipped 3,000 of its sales workers with iPads. The company also makes a Neuromodulation Learning Institute application for health care providers managing patients with chronic pain.

      22) Continental, United

      Continental and United, which recently merged, are handing out 11,000 iPads to their pilots, who will use them to access operating manuals, reference books, navigation charts and other key flight data. Jeppesen, which markets flight navigation products, digitizes all that information for the iPad via its Mobile FliteDeck app, pictured here. Alaska Airlines, meanwhile, has given out more than 1,400 iPads to its pilots.

      33) Safe/Sea Marine Rescue

      Safe/Sea Marine Rescue runs a 24/7 boat towing, salvage and assistance service for recreational boaters. Each captain of a company craft uses an iPad to receive emergency data from dispatchers to locate boats that need rescue. The app used is FileMaker Go connected to a FileMaker Pro database hosted on Macs.

      44) Siemens Energy

      Siemens Energy has issued iPad 2 tablets to 350 technicians who service wind turbines. These workers use the devices to document their work and call up manuals for pointers.

      55) Proskauer Law Practice

      More than 500 attorneys for Proskauer Rose, a prominent law firm, use iPad 2s to send and receive email messages and other electronic documents. Partners also use the iPads to go over contracts with clients.

      66) Standard Chartered

      Standard Chartered Bank, an international bank with 1,800 branches on six continents, lets its workers use the iPad internally and to “personalize customer service.”

      77) Hawthorn Pharmaceuticals

      Hawthorn Pharmaceuticals lets 130 sales employees take iPads on the road with them for sales presentations and to take signatures for dropping off medication samples at pharmacies around the country. Employees also use them internally.

      88) Gulliver International

      Used car sales powerhouse Gulliver International creates indexes of used car photos from its showroom, then lets consumers brows them online. Buyers search through vehicle information and review photos, then bid on cars in real time-all from the iPad. Users can zoom in on photos and flick between images and descriptions.

      99) Tampa Bay Buccaneers

      Even the NFL is getting in on the iPad. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have downloaded their playbooks on iPad 2 devices, which they then gave to all of their 90 roster players. Players also use the slates to watch game films to prepare.

      The Benetton Group clothing company has built a custom iPad catalog app that gives its sales staff a way to navigate through clothing collections and zoom in on garments.
