      1Eugene Kaspersky, CEO

      1

Thinking about being careful goes a long way. Kaspersky examines every domain before clicking and thinks about what the domain is, any reputation, and where its going. He also runs Firefox on Windows 7.

      2Eugene Buyakin, COO

      2

Buyakin uses a Mac with an antivirus application installed. He said he controls his Web surfing and doesnt just randomly click on links, but goes where he was already planning to go.

      3Nikolay Grebennikov, CTO

      3

Grebennikov turns on the Safe Surf feature available on Kasperskys security software when on an e-commerce Website. He also uses the applications virtual keyboard when typing in credit card numbers so that the numbers cant get stolen by a keylogger.

4Costin Raiu, Director of Global Research and Analysis Team

      4

Raiu uses very strong passwords and never reuses them across sites. He also maintains separate credit cards for online use and offline usage. He uses pre-paid cards where he transfers a certain amount of money to the card, and uses that for online purchases.

5Alexey Polyakov, Director of Global Emergency Response Team

      5

Polyakov segments users on his computer, so that the administrator account is not the one being used for normal Web browsing. He has different policies for each user account to restrict certain activities.

      6Roel Schouwenberg, Senior Antivirus Researcher

      6

If an offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is, Schouwenberg said. He uses Google Chrome as his browser and runs No Script to block any scripts. Its quite effective, he said. He also does not allow the browser to open up PDF or other files automatically after downloading it.

7Daria Gudkova, Head of Content Analysis and Research

      7

Gudkova uses a password manager to keep all her passwords encrypted and secured behind a strong master password—the longer the better.

      8Stefan Tanase, Senior Security Researcher

      8

Its not enough to just patch the operating system and major programs, according to Tanase. He makes sure hes running the most updated version of the software, preferably one thats not more than a year old. He also updates all the bundled software, such as browser tool bars and plug-ins.

      9Aleks Gostev, Chief Security Expert

      9

Gostev emphasized education as the key to staying safe online. Know what kind of malware is out there, Gostev said, so that you will recognize when youve been infected. Go the less user-friendly way when surfing online.

10Sergey Novikov, Head of the Global Research and Analysis Team

      10

Using common sense was a common tip from the Kaspersky team, and Novikov was no exception. He also suggested using some kind of an algorithm to make sure all passwords are unique and random.

      11Denis Maslennikov, Senior Malware Analyst

      11

Maslennikov encrypts his drives and secures his information with strong passwords. He has his antivirus settings on paranoid, to pick up even the slightest odd item, instead of just letting things slide through.
