Samsung has released two Notebook 7 Spin two-in-one convertible notebooks in 13.3-inch and 15.6-inch screen sizes, featuring 360-degree hinges that allow the machines to be positioned for use in almost any angle and configuration for business users on the go.
The new enterprise-aimed notebooks, which run on Microsoft Windows 10 Pro and feature non-detachable keyboards, debuted on July 18 and can be used as notebooks or as a tablet. The 360-degree hinges allow the devices to be positioned as a notebook, as a tablet or as a presentation device for small groups, as well as for a wide range of other uses.
The 13.3-inch model includes a Full HD LED touch-screen display (1920 by 1080) and features a 2.3GHz Intel Core i5 processor, an Intel HD Graphics 520 chip, 8GB of DDR4 2133MHz memory and a 500GB hard drive.
The 15.6-inch Notebook 7 Spin Pro version includes a 15.6-inch Full HD LED touch-screen Display (1920 by 1080), a 2.50 GHz Intel Core i7 processor, Nvidia GeForce 940MX graphics with 2GB of DDR3L memory, 8GB of DDR4 2133MHz memory, a 1TB hard drive and a 128GB SSD drive.
Both machines include backlit keyboards, fast charging systems, built-in dual array microphones, dual stereo speakers, Webcams, an HDMI port, a USB 3.0 port, 2 USB 2.0 ports, a USB-C port and multimedia storage card readers. Both come in Platinum Silver and include Samsung Business Support.
The 13.3-inch model retails for $899.99, and the 15.6-inch model sells for $1,299.99. Both convertibles are available immediately through Samsung resellers and channel partners.
The 15.6-inch model includes a 1TB hard drive to provide plenty of storage, as well as a 128GB SSD drive for quick boot-up and speedy operating system and application performance, according to Samsung.
The 13.3-inch Notebook 7 Spin is 12.75 inches wide, 8.98 inches tall and 0.78 inches thick, and weighs 3.91 pounds. The 15.6-inch model is 14.74 inches wide, 10.11 inches tall and 0.78 inches thick, and weighs 5 pounds.
The new Notebook 7 Spin models evolved from earlier Samsung devices that provided enterprise users with tablet or laptop experiences, Jen Langan, director of product marketing for Samsung Business, told eWEEK.
“The Galaxy Tab Pro S [with its detachable keyboard] was targeted to mobile professionals who needed to navigate between tablet use cases and notebook use cases on the go,” she said. “The Notebook 9 was the lightest Ultrabook designed for the executive road warrior.”
The new Notebook 7 Spin machines can “address a larger group of users than the former Tab S and Notebook 9,” she said. “Once you see these devices, you’ll see … that many people who are working on a traditional clamshell laptop will want to switch to one.”
Eric McCarty, vice president of Samsung enterprise mobile product marketing, said in a statement that the new machines are “a testament to Samsung’s mission to design with purpose, providing professionals with a flexible [device] that does not lock users in to just one form factor or set of features. Offering the flexibility of a convertible two-in-one, housed within a modern laptop design, this new device gives users the tools they need to enhance collaboration and be more efficient in and out of today’s workplace.”
