Security specialist Barracuda announced an anti-phishing and advanced threat detection enhancements for protection against targeted email attacks in on-premises and cloud-based environments.

The enhancements are available in all editions of Barracuda Essentials for Office 365 and Barracuda Email Security Service. They protect against targeted attacks spread through email attachments, as well as link protection to safeguard against malicious, phishing and malformed URLs at click time.

Barracuda leverages its global threat intelligence across all network threat vectors–including network, user, Web applications, remote access, mobile and email.

Essentials for Office 365 Email Security Edition includes anti-phishing and advanced threat detection. Email Security Service customers can access the anti-phishing functionality at no additional charge, and can add advanced threat detection to existing subscriptions for a fee.

Essentials for Office 365 Email Security Edition, including anti-phishing and Advanced Threat Detection, is available starting at a list price of $1.70 per user per month. The Email Security Service offering is available starting at a list price of 90 cents per user per month.

In addition, Advanced Threat Detection subscriptions are available for $1.30 per user per month.

Link Protection safeguards users who do click on fraudulent or malicious links by ensuring that these links are opened in a safe sandbox. This is particularly useful for remote users who access email on mobile devices and might accidentally click on malformed URLs.

The company’s Link Protection technology identifies URL anomalies, blocks access, and notifies users of potential threats.

Advanced threat detection combines behavioral, heuristic and sandboxing technologies to protect against rapidly evolving malware, and zero-hour and targeted attacks spread through email attachments.

Barracuda’s cloud-based analysis framework combines threat intelligence gathered across multiple threat vectors.

In January the company announced Essentials for Office 365, a suite of cloud services designed to help organizations expand on the security and data protection functionality in Office 365.

The email security service extends security protection for Office 365 Exchange Online with additional granular controls, as well as multi-layer security against email-born threats and data leaks with encryption, data loss protection, and content inspection of all emails.

The Cloud Archiving Service offers productivity features, including mobile applications for end users to access, search, and retrieve email at any time from any device, while cloud-based backup and recovery provides IT administrators with real-time backup that helps simplify the process of recovering accidentally or intentionally deleted emails and files in Office 365.
