      Some quick facts:

Attendees also can offer their own perspectives at any time.

‘Predixions, Sure Things and Wild Guesses for IT in 2021’

Yeah, we’re using the alternate spelling “predixions” here at eWEEK. Why not? Makes it easier to search!

Everybody wants to hear about what’s likely to happen in the future—not that anybody knows exactly what’s going to take place, that is. Guesses—educated and wild alike—can spark interesting discussions. But it’s fun and entertaining to discuss the great things that are likely to happen, especially in the world of IT, where there’s never a dull news moment.

It’s also appropriate to look back and see what we accomplished in 2020 and how it may impact what we do in 2021. We may check back on some of the #eWEEKchat topics we discussed in 2020, which was another year marked by the fast ascendance of artificial intelligence everywhere, the rise of the edge computing and IoT markets, drones, AR and VR, smart cars and chatbots telling us what to do through our personal devices.

5G started to make some real inroads in 2020, thanks mainly to T-Mobile and AT&T; 2021 will be even bigger in 5G as it spreads to all our devices.

We saw the continued rise of RISC-V processing, AI and machine learning-based apps, blockchain databases, citizen development software projects and other items. Don’t get us started on containers, Kubernetes and microservices—we could go on all day!

We also saw the usual high number of major security breakdowns, data privacy debates, another new iPhone, and the continued development of big data analytics, business intelligence, cognitive computing and robotics.

      Concluding Year 8 of #eWEEKchat!

With this in mind, eWEEK is ending its eighth year of eWEEKchats. We started in January 2013—this one will be No. 93—we took the summer off in 2019 and had a special off-the-grid #eWEEKchat or two during the last two years. Here we will look ahead to 2021 at the new and different things we may expect to encounter. We will have some special guests online with us to offer their takes on all of this.

Everybody is invited: users, non-users, analysts, vendors, other journalists, seers, non-seers—everybody.

Need some ideas? eWEEK is currently running a series of “Predixions for 2021” articles. Read them over before you join our chat next Tuesday.

Here comes a prediction right now: We will pose questions such as:

      • What new devices, software and services might we expect to see in 2021?
      • Will we ever be able to get a handle on keeping data secure? Will we ever be able to completely screen out the bad human elements?
      • Will Facebook and Google continue to make improvements in their data privacy processes in 2021?
      • Could the fast development of cognitive computing turn into a serious problem? Elon Musk and the late Stephen Hawking are among the most prominent worriers about this.
      • Can we expect any type of improvement in online personal data privacy in 2021?

Plan to join us for what promises to be a fun and illuminating hour on Dec. 8. Get your predictions ready and share them with us!
