Fujitsu announced the availability of its latest scanning software, PaperStream Server, a Web-based document processing platform that lets organizations collect, enhance, process, index, and route content into line of business (LOB) or enterprise content management (ECM) systems.
PaperStream Server can integrate with existing document capture or ECM applications with no mapping required to connect to an organization’s back-end system.
“Ease-of-use is critical for our customers, not only from the user interface and interacting with the application, but in administrating, supporting and extending the product to enhance automation in paper or electronic document processes, Marni Carmichael, senior director of product management at Fujitsu Computer Products of America,” told eWEEK.
The PaperStream Server visual workflow designer simplifies the document processing set up into easy-to-use icon driven decisions, making it very simple to copy, paste and edit processes and add new document types or process flows.
Additionally, because PaperStream Server is Web-based, the user interface is easy to access and enables customers to simply add users and provide support, the company said.
“For more complex environments our extensive customization capabilities enable us to integrate with other, line of business applications or enterprise content management solutions,” Carmichael noted.
With PaperStream Server, organizations can import or ingest both scanned images and digital documents from multiple sources and process those documents accurately, then send them into business workflows.
In addition to batch processing, the software can pull in existing digital documents from watched folders, emails, CSV and XML files or other client applications, such as PaperStream Capture Pro.
“Our early adopters are asking for more integration points, like images coming from file shares, MFPs, scanners, email, and multiple line of business applications utilizing the same content,” Carmichael said. “This can reduce costs of duplicating processes and routing so we can leverage the data in documents most effectively.”
Deployment and maintenance of PaperStream Server is Web-based, supporting a management center that enables simple drag-and-drop deployment and maintenance, and as an organization grows, the software can adapt to support any number of documents and an unlimited number of users.
As document management solutions evolve, it will be important for mobile access to perform as well, or better than traditional client software, Carmichael said. He also predicted the continuation of simple and intuitive user interfaces and a device agnostic approach, where workflows and user experiences are the same regardless of where the document or data enters or interacts with a system.
