Sony took the wraps off its Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact and 4K smartphone Xperia Z5 Premium at the IFA Conference in Berlin this week.

The devices are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor and boasts high capacity 3430 mAh battery lasting for up to two days and featuring quick charge capability.

Other features include 32GB internal memory with the capability to take a 200GB external microSD card, but the handset’s main draw is undoubtedly its 5.5-inch 4K Triluminos display, which boasts four times the resolution of full HD.

In addition to the 4K display, the smartphone also has the capability to upscale content to 4K, port the memory card from the company’s 4K Action Cam FDR-X1000V to the phone, and wirelessly transmit content to a 4K television using DLNA or MHL 3.0 technology.

The Z5 Premium also offers the company’s memory on display feature, where the data transfer between processor and device is optimized.

The smartphone’s display memory technology remembers the display of images seen on the device and caches the image or video so that users don’t need to reload the full image each time they view it, which the company said helps save battery life as well.

The waterproof Xperia Z5 sports a metal frame and frosted glass back, a 5.2-inch display and is available in a choice of four colors, while the Z5 Compact offers a different set of color options and a 4.6-inch screen.

The handsets are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 processor, featuring octa-core central processing units (CPUs), 64 bit capabilities and 4G LTE connectivity.

In a bid to address consumer gripes about battery life and power performance, Sony has included Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 technology, which allows for faster charging times when paired with a Quick Charge charger.

Both devices include an integrated fingerprint sensor power button, cap-less USB charging port and support the FIDO standard, which allows for authentication through fingerprint for online payment services.

The Z5 also features the company’s first completely re-imagined smartphone camera module since the Xperia Z1—a large 1/2.3 Exmor RSTM for mobile 23MP sensor and F2.0 G Lens, with autofocus speeds of 0.03 seconds.

Advanced processing software allows for clearer nighttime shooting, and the camera also includes Sony’s SteadyShot with Intelligent Active Mode for video.

On the audio front, all three handsets feature DSEE HX technology, which enhances the audio fidelity of existing MP3, AAC or Spotify tracks to near High-Res Audio quality, as well as Sony’s LDAC codec for wireless streaming, which transmits data more efficiently over Bluetooth.

The Z5 and Z5 Compact will launch globally in October, while the Z5 Premium will debut in November, and the Z5 and Z5 Premium will be available in both Single SIM and Dual SIM variants.
