Virtual Instruments, which makes a highly regarded analytics platform for data center infrastructure performance management (IPM), announced Aug. 4 that it has upgraded its frontline VirtualWisdom application platform.

The newest version (v4.3) of the vendor-agnostic VirtualWisdom suite is designed to ensure high performance for enterprise applications spanning all computing environments — physical, virtual and cloud.

VirtualWisdom not only supplies infrastructure performance management by alerting users about what’s not working inside the system, it goes steps further and tells them how to fix it, and in real time.

Virtual Instruments also introduced a cloud delivery model for VirtualWisdom deployments, which provides an option to move a customer’s platform appliance and data analytics to the cloud. With these new capabilities, Virtual Instruments is continuing its strategy to offer an end-to-end IPM platform that provides insight into the performance and availability of any hypervisor, interconnect or data store, the company said.

By correlating and analyzing millions of data points across the entire infrastructure, VirtualWisdom 4.3 provides line-of-business decision-makers with answers so they can proactively optimize their systems. As a result, IT teams can spend less time troubleshooting and more time focusing on growing the business and enabling greater cross-department collaboration.

      New capabilities include:

–ProbeVM for PowerVM, which provides greater insight into the virtualization stack to enable proper placement of workloads, as well as the intelligence needed to properly size the logical partitions (LPARs).

–ProbeVM for Hyper-V, which offers enhanced visibility into Hyper-V environments to diagnose the cause of application slowdowns and optimize VMs.
–VM Coordinator analytics, which aggregates and analyzes historical virtual machine (VM) resource usage to eliminate over-provisioning and needless re-balancing, and instead organizes virtual workloads most efficiently in the face of challenging migrations and demands for efficiency.

–Cloud computing delivery model, which integrates an on-premises VirtualWisdom deployment with analytics pushed through the cloud to provide customers with the flexible options they need to support expanding company requirements, while keeping expenses and investments at a minimum

–Expanded storage protocol support, which incorporates new hardware performance probes for NAS (network attached storage) and FCoE (Fibre Channel over Ethernet), ensuring that enterprises incorporating diverse storage technologies have wide-reaching critical insights into the holistic performance of their complex, heterogeneous systems.

VirtualWisdom 4.3 is available now with support for the cloud-based delivery model; NAS and FCoE hardware probes will be released later this year. Go here for more information.
