Dell launched a series of solutions designed to help organizations access Windows applications and manage virtual desktops and social networks, including Appliance for Wyse – vWorkspace.

The platform, which is aimed at school districts and small-to medium-size businesses (SMBs) simplifies virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) deployment and management and enables Windows application delivery to a variety of endpoints, the company said.

One appliance can deliver Windows applications to up to 350 devices, starting at $180 per user for the server hardware and licenses, hypervisor and vWorkspace broker.

It will be available from Dell and through the company’s PartnerDirect partners worldwide starting this summer.

The Appliance for Wyse – vWorkspace offering, which leverages the company’s Wyse vWorkspace desktop virtualization software, enables access to Windows desktops and applications such as Excel and PowerPoint from nearly any HTML5 browser-capable device, without the need for client software installation on the endpoint.

Built on Dell’s PowerEdge R730 or T630 13G servers, the appliance is compatible with a variety of Dell endpoints, including Wyse thin clients and Dell Chromebooks.

In an effort to reach out to organizations with limited IT resources or staff, the appliance can be managed by IT generalists with end-user administration skills and experience with Microsoft environments.

All VDI software is pre-installed and deployment consists of simply installing the unit, connecting to power and network connections, and powering on.

In addition, Dell Software’s Migration Manager for Enterprise Social (MMES) centralizes user collaboration for Yammer and Office 365, while the PowerEdge R930 server, designed to run enterprise applications including Microsoft Dynamics, SQL Server 2014 and Microsoft Skype for Business.

The R930, which will be available in June, features up to 72 processing cores of Intel Xeon E7-8800/4800 v3 family of processors and 6TB of memory in 96 dual in-line memory modules (DIMMs).

It also boasts 24 internal hard drives and support for up to eight PowerEdge Express Flash NVM Express (NVMe) solid state drives (SSDs) which feature Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIe), a high-speed serial computer expansion bus standard.

The MMES offering is designed to help support users managing content in multiple enterprise social platforms across their organizations, with the first release supporting the migration of content between Yammer and Jive.

The platform lets users migrate discussions and documents from Jive places to Yammer groups with high fidelity, preserving essential content, including metadata, permissions, attachments and other rich text.

Users can monitor the migration from a central console and control the project with automation, and maintain user and document permissions by mapping Jive accounts to Yammer user accounts.

A discovery dashboard lets users view the entire Jive environment, including all places, discussions, documents, attachments, and metadata such as author, creation date, modified date and size.
