Logitech announced the launch of the MX Master Wireless Mouse, the latest mouse in a lineage that includes the MX Revolution and Performance MX.

The mouse’s shape is designed to support the user’s hand and wrist in a natural position, and it has a speed-adaptive scroll wheel that lets users auto-shift from click-to-click to hyper-fast scrolling, as well as a thumbwheel for side-to-side scrolling and page switching.

Users can connect to their Windows or Mac computer through the company’s included Unifying Receiver or Bluetooth Smart technology. The mouse can be paired with up to three devices, allowing users to work on a desktop, laptop, or tablet.

“The MX Master incorporates the advanced features that performance-driven users, such as CAD designers, architects, programmers and other intense mice users look for in their productivity tools, with the flexibility of complete customization,” Anatoliy Polyanker, a global portfolio and brand director at Logitech told eWEEK. “With the Options software, there are more than 100 ways to program the keys to suit almost every need.”

For example, for Mac users, the gesture button can replicate two- and three-finger gestures that you could typically only do with the trackpad, giving customers more speed and control over their projects, he explained.

With a touch of the Easy-Switch button, users can switch between each device, and it has a button that can be customized to replicate gesture controls on Mac computers.

Additionally, the Darkfield Laser offers enhanced tracking on a wide variety of surfaces, even on glass and high-gloss surfaces.

The MX Master has a rechargeable battery that lasts for up to 40 days on a full charge depending on usage. An indicator light will notify users when the battery is getting low. Additionally, four minutes of charging gives users one day of usage and they can continue using the mouse while it charges.

“At Logitech, it is very important for us to begin the product design process based on extensive research about user needs. We also incorporate feedback that we receive from our customers in order to provide the best possible experience,” Polyanker said. “For example, the MX Revolution mouse had a speed-adaptive scroll wheel that we did not put in the Performance MX mouse. We brought it back based on requests from our customers.”

In explaining how the shape of the mouse is hand-sculpted and designed to fit most hands, he noted that just a millimeter taller or wider can make all the difference in how easy it is to use the mouse.

“We also included a rubber finish to make the mouse more comfortable to hold and the redesigned Options software makes it easy to customize the keys,” he said. The MX Master Wireless Mouse is expected to be available in April 2015 for a suggested retail price of $99.99.
