Compuware, a provider of mainframe software, announced it is providing day one support for IBM’s new z13 mainframe.
In addition, Compuware said it will provide same-day support for related z/OS releases as well as z13 enablement of COBOL, Java and PL/1.
Compuware worked with IBM to ensure that its Topaz, Strobe, File-AID, Abend-AID, Xpediter and Hiperstation solutions work seamlessly for customers migrating to IBM’s new hardware and software.
Compuware’s products continue to enhance the value of the z Systems ecosphere by optimizing developer productivity, reducing CPU costs and improving service quality. Topaz, Compuware’s newest solution, supports the z13’s data analytics and mobile use cases through its focus on helping developers access and manage mainframe data to support mobile apps and big data analytics.
IBM’s new z13 is designed to help companies and governments address the mega trends around mobile, analytics and cloud. IBM’s z13 mainframe is able to process 2.5 billion transactions per day. The z13 also features embedded analytics providing real-time insights on all transactions, as well as the ability to run real-time fraud detection on all business transactions.

“From a systems perspective, the z13 probably is the most sophisticated commercial computer ever built but you could make similar claims about past mainframe generations,” said Charles King, principal analyst at Pund-IT.
The system delivers scale and economics together with real-time encryption and analytics to meet the expectations of consumers for speed and safety for trillions of transactions in the mobile economy.
The new z13 system culminates a $1 billion investment and five years of development, and exploits the innovation of more than 500 new patents. It also represents a collaboration with more than 60 IBM clients.

The implication for business is the creation of a secure, high performance infrastructure with sophisticated analytics.”
Compuware’s Topaz enables IT professionals to discover, visualize and work with both mainframe and non-mainframe data in an intuitive manner. The company, which historically has focused on mainframe software, created Topaz to address the challenges of a shrinking mainframe workforce.
As experienced mainframe workers retire, the responsibility of leveraging high-value mainframe data falls to a new generation of developers and data architects who are unfamiliar with the platform. Topaz addresses this need for enterprises that run their businesses on the IBM System z mainframe.
