SAN FRANCISCO–More than 250 partner companies of host VMware are in attendance at VMworld 2014 through Aug. 28, and a good many of them made news announcements of their own on Aug. 25.

Here are some of the announcements in roundup form. To read about VMware’s announcements, go here.

      Egnyte

Enterprise cloud services provider Egnyte introduced Storage Connect, which enables direct access to files stored behind the firewall without data or metadata moving to the cloud.

Storage Connect 2.0 introduces cluster deployments, providing high availability and horizontal scalability to meet the privacy and security requirements of enterprise customers.

Egnyte also unveiled WebEdit for Storage Connect to enable customers to edit files stored behind the firewall in their native applications.

      SimpliVity

Hyperconverged server provider SimpliVity said that it will release a new version of its OmniStack Data Virtualization Platform to deliver greater flexibility for operating on x86 industry-standard systems.

In addition to its own packaging of OmniStack on Dell x86 appliances, offered as OmniCube, SimpliVity said will now provide OmniStack Integrated Solution with Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) C-Series Rack-Mount systems.

SimpliVity’s OmniStack Integrated Solution with Cisco UCS puts eight to 12 core data center functions on Cisco C240 rack-mount servers, including the hypervisor, compute, storage, network switching, backup, replication, cloud gateway, caching, WAN optimization, and real-time deduplication. Clustering multiple units forms a shared resource pool and delivers high availability and efficient scaling of performance and capacity.

Instances of OmniStack-powered hyperconverged infrastructure within and across data centers form a federation that can be globally managed from a single interface via VMware vCenter.

      Hewlett-Packard
HP and VMware expanded their long-standing relationship to build software-defined data centers and hybrid clouds by announcing that HP Helion, the company’s OpenStack distribution, will support enterprise-class VMware virtualization.

HP and VMware positioned the new package as the industry’s first “federated” networking solution, designed to provide users with unified automation of, and visibility into, their physical and virtual data center networks. The solution federates the HP Virtual Application Networks SDN Controller with the VMware NSX network virtualization platform.

      F5 Networks

F5 Networks and VMware announced interoperability between F5’s BIG-IQR management platform and the VMware NSX network virtualization platform for rapid orchestration of network and application services in the software-defined data center. The package enables customers to combine the VMware NSX platform’s network service automation with F5’s application delivery service management. This marks the latest in a series of collaborative efforts between the companies.

      CloudPhysics

CloudPhysics announced Global Insights that make it possible for VMware users to continuously benchmark their virtual infrastructure against global metrics. In combination with new interactive Daily Insights, Global Insights enable CloudPhysics users to instantly identify areas for improvement in their own environments as well as specific actions for achieving better datacenter health, performance and efficiency.

CloudPhysics is also previewing its “workload shapes” technology, an industry-first that provides VMware administrators with a visual shorthand for quickly recognizing storage performance anomalies and deep visibility for accelerating resolution.

      Zadara Storage

Zadara used VMworld to debut a new private cloud storage option that makes the first use of a next generation 40 GB Ethernet technology to boost storage application performance, particularly with databases and other latency-sensitive block storage-based applications.

Called the Zadara iSER Virtual Private Storage Array–where iSER is short for iSCSI Extensions for RDMA (iSER)–the storage solution was developed in collaboration with Ethernet networker Mellanox. The Zadara iSER VPSA cuts latency and allows on-premises data center customers of Zadara’s storage as a service solutions to achieve higher performance increases at the comparable price to other ordinary Ethernet solutions–effectively reducing their storage cost.

Zadara Storage uses a pay-as-you-go enterprise storage-as-a-service business model.

      Cortado

Cortado, maker of the leading print solution ThinPrint and longtime OEM partner of VMware, announced complete printing support of VMware Horizon 6.
Cortado has been an OEM partner of VMware for six years. The company’s ThinPrint Engine 10 supports the VMware Horizon 6 release with an optimized print solution that provides printing support for virtual desktops, Remote Desktop Services (RDS) remote apps, and software-as-a-service (SaaS) apps.

      AMAX

AMAX, a provider of cloud/IaaS, big data, and high-performance computing platforms, is demonstrating its CloudMax Converged Cloud Infrastructure Solution at the show.

CloudMax, recent winner of Intel’s Server Innovation Award for Best Data Center Product, is a turnkey private cloud package featuring OpenStack integrated with either traditional server or Facebook-inspired Open Compute (OCP) platforms, Open Networking/SDN support capabilities, and multi-hypervisor integration. This includes VMware’s vSphere ESXi, Citrix’s Xen, Windows Hyper-V and KVM.

CloudMax also can be deployed as a cloud platform compatible with cloud operating systems outside of the CloudMax software.
