CA Technologies and Wipro announced that they have expanded their strategic partnership to jointly deliver new testing solutions for DevOps.
CA is a provider of IT management solutions, and Wipro is a Bangalore, India-based provider of IT, consulting and business process services. Their expanded partnership will enable Wipro to leverage CA’s portfolio of technologies, including service virtualization, release automation/continuous delivery, continuous validation and continuous monitoring solutions, to help customers optimize their application development and delivery processes with a DevOps strategy.
DevOps is an IT methodology that helps foster collaboration between the teams that create and test applications (Dev) with those that maintain them in production environments (Ops).
“Our customers can benefit greatly from our expanded partnerships with Wipro,” said Shridhar Mittal, general manager of application delivery at CA Technologies, in a statement. “All companies face tremendous pressure to deliver higher quality applications faster at lower cost than ever before, so they look for solutions that can address their challenges—especially testing—which has always been the biggest bottleneck for the systems development lifecycle. Our solutions can help optimize the entire process by removing the bottlenecks.”
CA is serious about DevOps. Last year the company created the position of chief DevOps architect inside the company and appointed Ruston Vickers to the new role. Vickers has been working with CA customers to sharpen their DevOps strategies to help them deliver higher quality software and services to market faster.
“We have seen tremendous success and benefits through implementation of CA Service Virtualization offerings across a large set of our customers,” said Kumudha Sridharan, vice president and head of testing services at Wipro, in a statement. “Our joint DevOps Center of Excellence (COE) will help our customers further leverage CA Release Automation, CA Pathfinder and CA Datafinder suites. Wipro will leverage the DevOps COE to build capability and competency, develop Proof of Concepts to address customer needs and deliver services in line with customer requirements. Wipro’s Testing services packaged with CA’s DevOps suite will offer a comprehensive solution to customers worldwide.”
DevOps is primarily a software development method that stresses communication, collaboration and integration between software developers and other IT professionals, particularly operations staff. It is an Agile-related practice that is a response to the interdependence of software development and IT operations. It aims to help an organization rapidly produce software products and services, and it benefits companies with very frequent releases.
“DevOps is about breaking barriers in IT which have slowed down IT change,” Al Hilwa, an IDC analyst, said. “Historically, developers, who are usually tasked with the transformative task of changing the business, are not well aligned with operations staff that is tasked with running the business as efficiently and reliably as possible. This separation has meant that resource provisioning for new applications took weeks and months and troubleshooting and scaling newly deployed applications required working across this organizational divide.”
