Computer maker Lenovo announced thinner and lighter additions to its ThinkPad portfolio, including the ThinkPad T440s, T440 and X240 Ultrabook notebooks with 20 percent thinner form factors, a variety of panel options and up to 45 percent larger trackpads with improved click functionality supporting Windows 8 gestures.
The ThinkPad T440s will be available starting at the end of October and priced from $1,149, while the ThinkPad T440 will be available starting at the end of October and priced from $899. The ThinkPad X240 will be available at the same time and priced from $1,099, a company release said.
Thanks to lower power usage and utilizing 4th generation Intel Core processors, the ThinkPad Ultrabooks can achieve up to 17 hours of battery life, while Power Bridge technology allows users to swap external batteries without powering down their PC.
Hardware-based biometric fingerprint security and tamper detection are linked to the Trusted Platform Module that keeps data protected, while lightweight carbon fiber materials increase physical protection and contribute to a lighter and thinner Ultrabook. In addition, the new Ultrabooks include numerous sensors that monitor the system, like a G-sensor to detect shock, thermal sensors to detect and manage heat, voltage sensors to control current and voltage sensors to protect key components.
Sharing many of the same features, the T440s and T440 models offer up to 1 terabyte of local storage or high speed solid state drives (SSD) and the latest generation WiFi and optional 4G WWAN technology. Full HD touch-enabled display is available with the T440s while the T440 includes an HD+ 14-inch screen with optional touch for an improved Windows 8 experience. The T440 can also include an optional integrated smart card reader for enhanced security.
The X240 weighs less than three pounds and is 20.3mm thin, designed for business users on the go. Featuring up to 4th generation Intel Core i7 processors, up to 1TB of storage, a 12.5-inch Full HD display option with touch, the notebook also boasts a ThinkPad Precision backlit keyboard and the ability to go “dongle free” with a complete set of ports for full connectivity.
Lenovo also debuted two notebooks in its S-series line, including the ThinkPad S440 and S540, featuring the latest 4th generation Intel Core processors, up to Full HD anti-glare touch displays and discrete graphics. In addition, Lenovo’s OneLink connector allows for single cable connection to the OneLink Dock for USB 3.0 connectivity, native video, Gigabit Ethernet and powering the notebook.
The S-series notebooks will be available initially in selected markets, with the ThinkPad S440 available in September priced from $920, while the ThinkPad S540 available starting October priced from $855.
Finally, the company also introduced a 21:9 panoramic display in its latest ThinkVision monitor, the LT2934z. Featuring a 29-inch advanced high performance in-plane switching (AH-IPS) LED backlit panel which Lenovo said offers 33 percent more viewing area than a traditional 16:9 screen. The monitor also features a Full HD webcam, dual array microphone and speakers for enhanced videoconferencing capability. The ThinkVision LT2934z available starting October priced from $799.
