Networking specialist Netgear announced the Nov. 13 launch of the newest addition to the company’s unified threat management (UTM) S series of firewalls, the ProSecure UTM25S, which provides two modular slots that fit optional interface cards, enabling IT administrators to custom-tailor the firewall to specific connectivity requirements.
The UTM25S is available now with a 30-day free trial through Netgear partners as well as CDW and PC Connection. The list price for the UTM25S starts at $1,000 and includes a one-year subscription to Web and email protection subscription services. The package also includes 24/7 technical support and a lifetime warranty.
Expanding on the numerous protections that the UTM series offers, the UTM25S includes an application control and application firewall, anti-malware from email and anti-malware from Web-browsing capabilities, as well as spam and content filtering.
The offering also features a Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) firewall and virtual private network (VPN) tunnels using either Internet Protocol Security (IPSec) or Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), as well as multi-WAN capability for load balancing and failover connectivity. Options include Ethernet, DSL or 3G, and even 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks when paired with the company’s MBR1515 or MBR1517 mobile broadband routers.
“The ProSecure UTM25S is a huge asset to our clients in terms of deployment, maintenance and securing their interests from the wide range of malware scams inundating the Web today,” Eric Gorman, owner of Integrated Enterprise Solutions, an IT services specialist, said in a statement. “We are extremely pleased at the protection it gives our clients against these advanced attacks, while offering extensive management capabilities and an affordable price point that fits within our clients’ budget.”
It also offers a wireless-N access-point module and is a UTM firewall gateway recommended to support up to 25 users. Targeted at small and midsize businesses (SMBs) and remote or branch offices looking to make the move from a standard firewall to a UTM application firewall solution, the platform also includes Netgear’s Stream Scanning technology, which analyzes data streams as they enter the network. Like its predecessor, the UTM9S, it is designed to provide Internet security as well as high-speed Internet access through a choice of WAN connections, built-in Ethernet ports, an optional VDSL modem module or a qualified 3G USB dongle.
“Because of the always increasing amount of latency-sensitive Web traffic, combining enterprise-grade security into a traditional all-in-one firewall platform has proven a daunting challenge,” Peter Newton, Netgear’s senior director of product management for the commercial business unit, said in a statement. “We developed the UTM25S as a direct result of customer feedback. It fills a strategic gap for customers that require all of the features of our UTM9S appliance, but have a higher volume of Internet traffic to manage.”
