Aiming to offer more access to its collection of online content, bookseller Barnes & Noble has launched Nook for Web, a free browser that gives readers the ability to explore digital titles and books right from their computer without having to download software, sign in or even have a Nook account. The service can be accessed from any PC or Mac browser, with support coming this fall for Internet-enabled tablets, smartphones and other mobile devices.
The bookseller is also offering six bestselling Nook Books in their entirety at no charge for readers to try the online digital reading platform. Customers can read a sample of the book and then download the entire tome for free through any browser, including Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox and Safari, through July 26. Titles include Candice Bushnells “Sex and the City,” “Brave” by Tennant Redbank and “Perfect Island Getaways” by Patricia Schultz.
Nook for Web also allows readers to sample any book from the online database and customize the reading experience using the navigation bar. Users can choose between eight fonts and eight font sizes and a single- or double-page layout. The ability to collapse the navigation bar once preferences are selected helps minimize clutter. The platform also offers social media connectivity, allowing users to rate, review and share thoughts or recommend books via Twitter, Facebook or email without having to leave the book.
In addition, customers can read any book from their personal Nook Library by signing in using a Nook account, as well as synchronize the last page read from a Nook tablet or reader, variety of computing and mobile devices with free Nook Reading Apps and Nook for Web. To round out the package, customers can also send free Nook Book samples directly to an existing Nook Library to access new content on the go from Nook devices or one with Nook Reading Apps.
