    FuseSource Launches IDE for Camel

FuseSource, a provider of open-source integration and messaging software, has announced a new integrated development environment for the Camel open-source integration framework.

FuseSource announced that its Fuse IDE for Camel is generally available as part of the company’s Fuse Mediation Router subscription.

Debbie Moynihan, vice president of marketing at FuseSource, said a trial version of the IDE is now available for download. The trial version can be found at here. The April 11 launch of Fuse IDE for Camel follows a successful beta that began Jan. 31 and featured more than 500 active beta testers, Moynihan said.

Fuse IDE for Camel delivers Eclipse-based tooling featuring an easy-to-use GUI. Architects and developers can use Fuse IDE for Camel in conjunction with Apache Camel or Fuse Mediation Router to visually connect software components, speeding integration and streamlining the development process. The IDE was designed by FuseSource’s James Strachan, Apache Camel co-founder

“Our mission is to make enterprise architects and developers successful with open-source integration and messaging solutions, and a big part of that is delivering corresponding tools that drive efficiency and reduce complexity,” said Larry Alston, president of FuseSource, in a statement. “The introduction of Fuse IDE for Camel is just one of the ways FuseSource is making professional open source the easy choice for enterprise integration projects.”

Moynihan said Fuse IDE for Camel’s Eclipse-based tooling enables developers and architects to use a familiar and standard development environment, eliminating a lengthy learning curve and speeding time to deployment. Meanwhile, the easy-to-use GUI eliminates the need to write code. Fuse IDE for Camel allows developers to “drag and drop” integration and mediation components, rapidly connecting systems.

In addition, the new IDE features predefined building blocks. Fuse IDE for Camel leverages the well-known Enterprise Integration Patterns (EIPs) developed by Gregor Hohpe and Bobby Woolf and ships preloaded with all defined EIPs, ensuring flexibility in the development process. Also, all integration and mediation components in Fuse IDE for Camel use standard notation, making it easy to define and reuse routes, FuseSource said.

Moreover, Fuse IDE for Camel ensures that all links between nodes are validated before the link is created; if the target node is not valid, the editor will not allow the connection.

And Fuse IDE for Camel offers developers a great deal of flexibility, Moynihan said. Recognizing that enterprises use a variety of technologies to accomplish their development goals, Fuse IDE for Camel allows developers and architects to deploy routes into Apache ServiceMix, Fuse ESB, Spring, JEE servers or stand-alone Java Virtual Machines (JVMs).

Moynihan also said developers and architects interested in seeing the Fuse IDE for Camel in action can attend the inaugural CamelOne Conference, taking place May 24-26, 2011, at the Westin Arlington Gateway, in Arlington, Va. The first event of its kind, CamelOne is designed to provide professionals using open-source integration and messaging solutions in the enterprise with an opportunity to meet, learn and share ideas with the experts, including founders and committers of integration and messaging projects within the Apache Software Foundation.

Backed by the leaders and founders of several key Apache Software Foundation projects, FuseSource is expert in open-source integration and messaging. FuseSource employs more than 25 active committers on 11 Apache projects.

FuseSource is solely focused on providing enterprise-ready integration and messaging software combined with the tools, training and expertise sought by organizations implementing and managing integration projects such as service-oriented architecture (SOA), cloud environments and others. Hundreds of large enterprises use FuseSource solutions to deploy and manage integration and messaging infrastructure at a lower total cost of ownership than traditional commercial solutions. FuseSource is a wholly owned subsidiary of Progress Software and can be found on the Web at fusesource.com.
