Broadvox, an Internet telephony service provider (ITSP) and Digium, the Asterisk company, announced Broadvox had achieved interoperability certification with the Digium’s Switchvox small to medium-size business (SMB) business communications system. Broadvox customizes and delivers IP communications solutions to SMBs through SIP Trunking and Switchvox. Interoperability certification allows resellers to deliver unified communications solutions to SMBs that might not have the budget of large corporations, but want to integrate phones, e-mail, chat, video and the Internet to enable more efficient communications.

Switchvox SMB does not require extra hardware to connect to SIP trunks, and support for public switched telephone network (PSTN) connectivity gives customers increased flexibility when migrating to IP communications. Broadvox delivers SIP Trunking solutions to SMBs and enterprises through a private network customized to fit the communications needs of SMBs and enterprises, regardless of their existing infrastructure. GO! SIP Trunking products deliver unlimited local calling, discounted international, long distance and toll-free calling with clarity that Broadvox boasts rivals traditional time-division multiplexing (TDM).

“Digium’s Switchvox is an ideal communications solution for discriminating SMBs that need a professional phone system,” said David Byrd, vice president of marketing and sales at Broadvox. “Switchvox is designed to be easy for SMBs to use and manage and using Switchvox with GO! SIP Trunking delivers a communication solution that can help businesses better communicate with customers. Switchvox SMB is more than an IP PBX; it is a Web-aware unified communications solution.”

Businesses can achieve up to 70 percent savings on their monthly telecom costs over traditional TDM when they deploy Broadvox GO! SIP Trunking while their productivity improves with the features and functions available with SIP, according to Byrd. With Switchvox SMB, he said more functionality becomes available, such as fax integration, video calling and IVR functions for building custom applications.

“Used together, Broadvox’s award-winning GO! SIP Trunking and Switchvox deliver an innovative communications solution to SMBs. The premium call quality delivered through the expertly engineered Broadvox network helps SMBs take full advantage of the features of Switchvox,” said Bill Miller, vice president of product management at Digium. “With Broadvox SIP Trunking and Switchvox, SMBs can integrate their communications systems with web applications in a truly unique way.”

Earlier this year, Broadvox announced interoperability certification with NEC’s Univerge SV8100 and UX5000 IP communications servers. The Univerge UX5000 is an integrated solution for smaller businesses designed to meet the challenges of both business telephony applications and VoIP. The system supports pure peer-to-peer IP telephony connectivity and advanced networking, and the features delivered via the SV8100 or UX500 can be shared between branch offices by linking multiple NEC communications servers together.
