Voice over IP fax server solutions specialist FaxBack announced a beta program for a new fax analog telephone adapter device, an alliance with Epygi Technologies and a new partner program at this year’s ITEXPO event in Los Angeles, which ran earlier in September.

According to FaxBack, the Fax ATA device embeds the software and all of the intelligence required to reliably connect fax machines to VOIP networks over the open Internet, including low-quality, latent or unsecured networks. FaxBack’s HTTPS-based approach reliably connects fax machines over VOIP networks, including wireless networks or satellite connections. Previously unsupported features, like fax archiving and e-mail notifications, are now possible for businesses using fax machines.

In addition to carriers, FaxBack is also partnering with VOIP vendors to embed this new fax protocol into their ATAs. The beta initially includes AudioCodes’ MP-202 platform supporting the new HTTPS fax protocol, and it will include several other vendors’ ATAs and hardware platforms. The beta program began Sept. 15.

During the convention FaxBack also announced an alliance with Epygi, an IP PBX telephone systems provider for small to medium-size businesses (SMBs), to incorporate FaxBack’s Microsoft Fax Plug-in into the Epygi Quadro family of business communication systems. Epygi’s Quadro IP PBXes, Quadro Gateways and Quadro Conference Servers are specifically designed to provide the IP-based communications capabilities that SMBs and small offices/home offices (SOHO) look for at affordable rates.

In addition to the Microsoft Fax Plug-in, FaxBack and Epygi have also certified the interoperability of FaxBack’s NET SatisFAXtion VOIP Fax Server, which brings FaxBack’s full suite of premises-based, enterprise VOIP-fax capabilities to the Quadro product family.

Quentin Dible, vice president of operations for FaxBack, said the response they’re seeing across the SMB marketplace to the Microsoft Fax VOIP Plug-in is tremendous. “It turns one of the last hurdles for adopting a new VOIP phone system-reliable VOIP fax-into a simple convenience that improves productivity and saves money,” he said. “Epygi is one of the clear leaders in the SMB VOIP space, and we’re thrilled to work with them to share our VOIP-fax capabilities with their user base.”

The third announcement concerned a partner program targeted at media gateway providers, IP PBX providers, and VOIP service providers and carriers. FaxBack has also introduced a migration path to its winning NET SatisFAXtion VOIP Fax Server offering. “We’re giving away our Microsoft Fax VOIP Plug-in to partners targeting the SMB space that are interested in adding a free and convenient fax solution into their offerings,” FaxBack Director of Marketing Brian Keep said. “This program also serves to introduce FaxBack, and our NET SatisFAXtion VOIP Fax Server, to other partners that target the larger enterprise market.”
