Computer products supplier Fujitsu announced the launched a new aggregated series of 24-port and 48-port 1Gb/10Gb Ethernet Switches. The introduction of the 24-port XG0224 and 48-port XG0448 expands the XG family of Fujitsu high-performance Ethernet switches, helping enable the integration of existing Ethernet streams into high-speed 10Gb networks.

The Fujitsu XG Switches offer low latency and a low failure rate in a compact form factor, which the company said is ideal for businesses. The XG0224 and XG0448 will feature auto sensing 10/100/1000 Base-T with 4 ports of SFP optics and open slots for 1 or 2 dual port 10GbE uplink cards, depending upon the model. Fujitsu said the low-power, 1U high form factor allows for easy integration into existing networks and system chassis while also providing an easy upgrade path for customers.

Jim Preasmyer, director of sales and business development for Fujitsu’s Advanced Technology Group said many of their customers, who have come to appreciate the performance and quality of the Fujitsu 10GbE Switch products, have also inquired about utilizing similar Fujitsu solutions in their 1Gb networks. “”The Fujitsu 24-port and 48-port Switches provide a consolidated product offering that gives customers a low-cost upgrade path to full 10Gb networking combined with the Fujitsu brand name they have come to trust.”

The Fujitsu XG series of switches offer high-performance and high-speed Layer 2 switching and feature ultra-low latency, flexible interfaces and compact form factors. The company said the switches are ideal for enterprise storage and video server applications, high-performance computing (HPC), and the Internet SCSI (iSCSI) and Networked Attached Storage (NAS) markets.

Steven Murphy, president and CEO, Reldata, a unified iSCSI storage solutions specialist, said Fujitsu has built upon its success in the 10GbE market with the addition of the XG0224/XG0448, a product that represents where the storage industry is strategically headed with 1GbE/10GbE technology. “As one of the few unified storage solution providers currently shipping products with mixed 1GbE and 10GbE connectivity, we are very excited about the additional opportunities this new product provides,” he said. “Customers can leverage Reldata and the Fujitsu aligned technologies to cost-effectively maximize speed and performance in their storage environments.”

Last year, the two companies announced the interoperability of the Fujitsu XG 10 GbE family and Reldata 10GbE 9240 Unified Storage Solution. The technology integration enabled 10Gb iSCSI SAN connectivity, allowing storage customers to eliminate the challenges of rapid storage growth with modular scalability.
