The leader of the Adobe business unit that handles the Flash player has departed the company to join a venture capital firm.
John Brennan, former senior vice president responsible for Adobe’s Platform Software business unit, left the company to join Silver Lake Sumeru as a managing director, Silver Lake’s middle-market investment group said on March 14.
Adobe’s Flash technology is core to its position in the market for tools to develop Web pages and integrated video, Web applications and advertisements, as well as rich Internet applications. In an interview with eWEEK in February, Adobe CTO Kevin Lynch said Adobe’s Flash is downloaded on average about 12 million times a day.
Meanwhile, Adobe has moved on in Brennan’s absence. The Platform Software business unit will be run by General Manager David Wadhwani, the company said.
Brennan, who also previously led Adobe’s corporate development function as well as the company’s Creative Professional business unit, leaves the company five months after Bruce Chizen announced his departure as CEO.
