Toshiba is already a serious contender in the laptop market, and the company is looking to expand its laptop line by jumping on the AMD bandwagon to keep up with similar offerings from Dell and HP.

The Satellite A215-S4757 will be the first Toshiba laptop to feature an AMD processor. Toshiba is also beefing up its gaming line with a duo of 3D demons. The new Satellite X205 series will consist of two laptops—the X205-S9349 and the X205-S9359—which will launch in conjunction with nVidias new powerhouse chipset for gaming, the nVidia GeForce 8700M GS.

In the past, nVidia mobile gaming cards were launched exclusively with Dell. But the Toshiba Satellite X205 series is launching in conjuction with the nVidia GeForce 8700M GS, the successor to the Geforce Go 7950GTX line. Its arguably the best 3D card out there for hardcore mobile gamers.

/zimages/7/28571.gifRead more here about Toshiba using AMD chips in some of its notebooks.

The X205 Series comes in two flavors: A $1,999 (X205-S9349) and a $2,499 (X205-S9359) configuration. The more expensive configuration will have an additional ATSC (HD) TV tuner, higher screen resolution, and a higher-capacity hard drive. Both models will have the latest goodies, though. This includes an HD DVD-ROM that will read but not write HD DVDs. The writable HD DVD-RW will find its way into the Toshiba Qosmio G45 later this quarter. With a trio of gaming machines and two Qosmios, Toshiba now has five laptops that incorporate HD DVD drives (a fact that should make Sony sweat a little).

The HD DVD experience on a laptop has improved exponentially since its inception. Toshiba made sure of that with its Toshiba HD DVD player, ensuring smooth, seamless playback quality. You can also download features and movie trailers from movie studios using the built-in wireless or Ethernet port on the laptop.
