Today’s topics include the rumors that Google is developing a Pixel laptop and a Nexus tablet, the release of Salesforce’s new unified consumer marketing platform, the Snapchat’s corporate name change and first hardware product and the updates to Splunk’s Enterprise Security and User Behavior Analytics platform.
Google is reportedly developing a new Pixel laptop computer and a Nexus tablet featuring an operating system that will be a hybrid of its Android and Chrome operating systems.
The devices are slated for delivery in the third quarter of 2017. The new Pixel laptop, code-named Bison, will apparently be based either on an Intel M3 or i5 Core microprocessor and support up to 128GB of storage and 16GB of RAM.
It will likely incorporate a fingerprint scanner, a touch keypad and several of the other features that are standard in its class of laptops, Android Police said, quoting two unnamed sources.
Meanwhile, 9to5Google described Google as working on a Nexus tablet based on hardware from Huawei that is also due out in the third quarter of 2017.
Consumers have more choices than ever when it comes to where and how they buy things. But for vendors, it can be tricky to figure out what’s selling where, when and most effectively. Salesforce.com saw an opportunity to address that problem with its $2.8 billion purchase of Demandware in June.
The move also made Salesforce, which was founded as a business-to-business software company, more of a player in the business-to-consumer space. Commerce Cloud, which is scheduled for release Sept. 27, represents the fruit of the Salesforce acquisition, an integrated cloud platform that offers “predictive intelligence” on what customers are likely to buy and provides product recommendations to potential buyers.
The predictive intelligence feature, called Commerce Cloud Einstein, leverages Salesforce’s recent introduction of artificial intelligence features called Salesforce Einstein.
Snapchat has changed its corporate name to Snap and unveiled its first hardware product—Snap Spectacles—which include a small integrated video camera that lets users capture short daily video clips that can be shared with others.
Snap announced Spectacles in a Sept. 24 post on the company’s website and also unveiled its new name to reflect that it now is more than just a social media chat company.
“We’ve been working for the past few years to develop a totally new type of camera,” Snap said in the post describing Spectacles. “Imagine one of your favorite memories.
What if you could go back and see that memory the way you experienced it? That’s why we built Spectacles.” Spectacles devices are a pair of sunglasses that include an integrated video camera that makes it easy for users to record their memories, which can then be shared through Snapchat.
Splunk announced the latest versions of its security technologies on Sept. 27 during the company’s .conf2016 event. Among the updated releases are Splunk Enterprise Security 4.5 and Splunk User Behavior Analytics 3.0.
The new releases are designed to make it easier for enterprises to collect and identify potential security risks and incidents. The Splunk ES product is a security information and event management platform that can help organizations derive insights collected from log, endpoint and network information.
