eWEEK is building a new IT products and services section that encompasses most of the categories that we cover on our site. In it, we will spotlight the leaders in each sector, which include enterprise software, hardware, security, on-premises-based systems and cloud services. We also will add promising new companies as they come into the market.

Today: Immuta (data privacy, data science, auditing, and compliance provider)

Company Description: Immuta is a fast and efficient way for algorithm-driven enterprises to accelerate the development and control of machine learning and advanced analytics. The company’s data management platform provides data scientists with rapid, personalized data access to improve the creation, deployment and auditability of machine learning and AI. Founded in 2014, Immuta is a privately-held company led by co-founder and CEO Matt Carroll and headquartered in College Park, Md.

Markets:  Data Privacy, Data Virtualization, Data Science, Auditing, Compliance, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Data Management and Analytics

International Operations:  Immuta is operational in the U.S., with locations in College Park, Maryland and Columbus, Ohio, Boston, MA, London, UK with teams also in Germany. On the heels of a $20 million investment round
closed earlier this year, Immuta has opened international presence in EMEA, where the company sees an opportunity to help companies navigate the intricacies of GDPR compliance.

Product and Services: Immuta enables algorithm-driven enterprises to quickly connect to data with any tool, dynamically control data from any source, and fully comply with any regulation to enable fast, legal and ethical data science.

Key Features: Immuta is the only company to enable data scientists, data owners and governance teams to work together in a single digital platform to access data faster, and in a legal and ethical manner, lowering business risk and bridging the gap between the law and AI.

      Insight and Analysis

Because Immuta is a startup, there isn’t much analysis available on its products in October 2018. However, Gartner in September 2018 named Immuta a “Cool Vendor” in its Data Science and Machine Learning Category. Go here to see details.

Immuta provides the banking industry’s only enterprise data management platform for artificial intelligence (AI), enabling organizations to operationalize data for increased access, control and visibility to drive their machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) programs.

In its report, Gartner finds that attention and emphasis on data management and governance around machine learning have intensified. Mature data science teams are looking for functionality around data lineage, privacy, risk management and access control. Gartner recommends that data management and governance becomes a point of emphasis within data science teams and provide support through specialized technologies.
