Today’s topics include Microsoft’s acquisition of Metanautix, more information about Gurucul’s new Hybrid Behavior Analytics technology, new convenience features for Microsoft’s Web-based Outlook app, and Sonus and Taqua announce a partnership on the development of voice over WiFi.

Software giant Microsoft announced on Dec. 18 that it has acquired Metanautix, a Palo Alto, Calif.-based data analytics startup.

Metanautix’s software can pull data from several databases, enabling enterprises to use data from several sources and applications for business analytics and intelligence purposes. The acquisition will help Microsoft free that data from its technical constraints in a cost-efficient manner.

Understanding the security of both enterprise- and cloud-based data is critical to managing risk. That’s where Gurucul’s new Hybrid Behavior Analytics technology is aiming to help, providing visibility and analytics across both cloud and enterprise assets.

According to Saryu Nayyar, CEO of Gurucul, many User Behavior Analytics vendors are focused on the enterprise side of data, while Cloud Access Security Broker technology vendors tend to focus just on the cloud applications.

After the holidays, Microsoft is planning to update its Web-based Outlook app with features meant to ensure that emails are sent to their intended recipients.

Announced by the company’s Outlook Group on Dec. 18, Microsoft will start rolling out new smart address book functionality starting next month.

When users add recipients to an email, Outlook will soon automatically display a list of suggested contacts. It will also be on the lookout for alternate spellings of names, a common source of workplace miscommunication.

Taqua, a supplier of IP communications systems, applications and services to mobile and fixed operators, announced a partnership with Sonus, a specialist in secure and intelligent cloud communications.

Their plan is to bring a fully virtualized, standard mobile core network solution to market. The service will provide mobile operators with a path to commercial rollout of WiFi Calling services, also known as voice over WiFi.

Under the terms of the partnership agreement, Taqua is integrating and reselling Sonus’ Session Border Control portfolio with Taqua’s Virtual Mobile Core to deliver advanced communications services to mobile network operators, including voice over WiFi and Voice Over Long Term Evolution.
