Amazing. As soon as The Station headed out of town for a few vacation days Dec. 9 to attend a wedding near Palm Springs, the news comes out that Dell is in negotiations to buy Minnesota-based Compellent.
Hello! How in the world did this take so long? We’ve been saying for more than two years that Compellent has one of the best storage systems out there among midsize companies. We have been surprised to see companies such as 3PAR, Isilon and Data Domain go to big systems vendors before it did.
Anything less than $1 billion for this smart company should be considered a bargain.
Frankly, in many ways Compellent has got the goods on most of those named above. It also has a very savvy CEO leader in Phil Soran, a sales and technical expert par excellence.
Dell will be getting a very good company with a very loyal client base if it follows through with the acquisition.
