SOA Software and Forum Systems are teaming to deliver integrated service-oriented architecture management and security solutions.

Santa Monica, Calif.-based SOA Software and Salt Lake City-based Forum Systems are expected to announce their integration strategy at the Web Services/SOA on Wall Street conference in New York on Feb. 27.

SOA Softwares Service Manager leverages Web services standards to integrate management and monitoring capabilities with Forum Systems XWall Web Services Firewall and Forum Sentry SOA Gateway to centralize the management and security of XML and Web-services-based systems.

The two companies use XML and Web services standards such as the WS-Policy specification to integrate the SOA components from each company. The integration means that users of Forum Systems and SOA Software can use the SOA Software Service Manager to control and manage the Forum systems security products. The SOA Software Service Manager also monitors performance, availability and service level agreement compliance, the company said.

“As enterprises adopt large-scale SOA infrastructure solutions, the ability to choose best-of-breed components and tie them together under a central policy and performance management and monitoring solution becomes critical,” said Roberto Medrano, executive vice president of SOA Software, in a statement. “Our partnership with Forum Systems allows customers to ensure the security and performance of their SOA from network edge through the last-mile.”

In December, SOA Software announced its acquisition of a mainframe Web services platform from Merrill Lynch & Co. Representatives from SOA Software and Merrill Lynch will be at the Web Services/SOA conference discussing the platform and using mainframes in SOA environments.

Meanwhile, GT Software, of Atlanta, will be exhibiting at the conference and is expected to announce the availability of its SOA development tools for the mainframe called Ivory Service Architect. The software development tools enable organizations to use their existing mainframe hardware, applications, data and skills to rapidly proliferate mainframe-based business services through their service-oriented architectures, company officials said.

The GT Software tools enable mainframe developers to graphically orchestrate mainframe transactions, applications, data, and Web services into multistep, multioperation business services, the company said. The Ivory Service Architect consists of two main components, the Ivory Studio and Ivory Server. Ivory Studio features a graphical IDE (integrated development environment). Ivory Server consists of a SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) processor, a business service flow processor, and a central repository for WSDL (Web Services Description Language) discovery, company officials said.

In addition, GT Software is looking to leverage an emerging SOA ecosystem and is enabling the integration of Ivory with software from Amber Point, Forego and Systinet, which is now a division of Mercury Interactive.

“Our rapid SOA development tools are specifically designed to enable mainframe developers to deliver more than just Web services from the mainframe,” said Rob Morris, senior vice president of marketing and strategy at GT Software. “With Ivory, companies can quickly and easily incorporate the full value of their mainframe resources in their SOA.”

Meanwhile, IntegraSolv, maker of the Owl business services and applications management software, is expected to announce a partnership with Fiorano Software, a leading provider of business process integration and messaging technology solutions to provide end-to-end service monitoring for customers that leverage Fioranos ESB (enterprise service bus) to provide SOA-based solutions, according to officials at the companies.

Fiorano SOA 2006 is a platform that offers technology for easy and rapid deployment of SOA solutions, company officials said. Each component of the platform provides enterprise customers with a sophisticated set of capabilities that increase business and IT flexibility while reducing costs, Fiorano officials said.

“Fioranos SOA 2006 Suite provides excellent end-to-end full featured infrastructure supporting SOA implementations,” said Arthur Frankstein, vice president of sales and marketing at Tinton Falls, N.J.-based IntegraSolv, in a statement. “Owl complements Fioranos products to deliver repeatable quality end-to-end service delivered across the rich set of technologies used to deliver SOA software, from emerging SOA technologies to existing legacy service components.”

Atul Saini, chief executive and chief technology officer at Fiorano, in Los Gatos, Calif., said: “Real-time monitoring and control of business-critical services is an area which is experiencing increased demand. IntegraSolvs expertise in this area along with the Fiorano SOA Platform delivers a powerful, easy to manage and scalable solution.”
