Today: CloudBolt Software (provides a hybrid cloud management platform and software solutions for the world’s largest enterprises)

Company description: CloudBolt is a leading enterprise cloud management platform. The company was founded in 2011 after a need was identified among IT leaders in large organizations to manage and optimize hybrid cloud. CloudBolt is a privately held company headquartered in Rockville, Md.

International Operations: Rockville, MD (HQ); Portland, OR; Boston, MA; and London, UK

      Products and Services

CloudBolt is a cloud management platform that helps enterprises centralize workload automation and orchestration, achieve unparalleled hybrid cloud visibility and cost-savings and deliver self-service IT for developers. By turning the enterprise into an IT service broker, it allows customers to unleash a responsive, agile alternative to runaway IT that gives DevOps what they want, whenever they want it without losing control. CloudBolt is deployed in the world’s largest enterprises, across all industries including financial services, government, health care, manufacturing, retail, technology services and others.

      Key Features

CloudBolt’s platform supports a variety of cloud technologies, from on-premises virtualization and private cloud to a wide range of public and hybrid cloud configurations, while using a centralized system. CloudBolt deploys and manages all Kubernetes clusters and container-based applications with self-service IT in minutes, not weeks. CloudBolt’s extensible plug-in architecture helps customers integrate new technologies like DevOps tools, infrastructure-as-code, and much more.

      Insight and Analysis

There are not a lot of peer reviews available for CloudBolt yet. It is still an early-stage venture company, according to Crunchbase. Gartner Peer Reviews had 11 reviews as of April 17, 2020. Here are some sample comments:

From a professional on Gartner Peer Reviews in 2019:

Overall Comment: “Very elegant, simple, straight-forward solution, but yet very extensible and customizable. Took only 30 minutes to download, configure, and hook it up to a resource handler and begin managing/provisioning/orchestrating VMs. Sometimes it can be tricky to get complex orchestrations working consistently, but they have great support to help you along.”

What do you like most about the product or service? “There’s good built-in structures and workflows to get up and running quickly, but it’s also completely customizable with a little bit of Python knowledge as well.”

What do you dislike most about the product or service?  “Managing VM templates and OS builds. Very manual process to add and maintain templates and OS builds. Could use some streamlining and automation to make that experience better for administrators.”

What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?  “Start small and simple, and gradually add complexity to the workflows and orchestrations over time. When automating lots of complex tasks, unreliable outside dependencies can cause lots of problems.”

List of current customers: The Home Depot, IBM, Liberty Mutual Insurance, Duke Energy, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, EA Sports, Cummins and Intercontinental Hotels Group

Other key players in this market:  Morpheus Data, VMware, Scalr and Embotics

Delivery: On-prem; CloudBolt is built on an extensible, plug-in architecture that comes with 200+ different plug-ins (e.g., plug-ins, remote scripts, webhooks, etc.). The software integrates your existing tools and technologies into CloudBolt orchestration workflows within minutes.
