ATLANTA–What will it take for OpenStack to be successful in the enterprise? That’s just one of the many questions that the board of directors at the OpenStack Foundation grappled with this week at the OpenStack Summit here.

In a video interview with eWEEK, Allan Clark, chairman of the board for the OpenStack Foundation, details what was discussed in board meetings at the Summit this week. Clark also provides insight into new initiatives that the OpenStack Foundation is looking to undertake to further advance its position in the market.

From an organizational perspective, the OpenStack Foundation includes a board of directors and a Technical Committee. For the first time ever, on May 11, there was a joint meeting of both groups to discuss the overall needs of OpenStack.

“We started off the meeting just talking about communication,” Clark said. “We talked a lot about contributions and how we can better utilize talent within the community.”

One area of specific focus for OpenStack is the “Win the Enterprise” effort, which is all about making sure that OpenStack is ready for the enterprise. Clark added that there is a similar effort for how to address the needs of end users as well.

Clark has been the chairman of the board since the OpenStack Foundation was created in 2012. He noted that the first year of the board was all about getting organized.

“Now we’re getting to the big picture strategic issues,” Clark said.
